"The true warrior isn't immune to fear. She fights in spite of it." - Francesca Lia Block
PRESENT DAY
PHOENIX
The team arrives quicker than I expected. With weapons and all, I think they assumed that what I had discovered was more of a theory than an actual realization.
"What is it?! Where is she?!" Amaya says, threateningly holding up her trident which she's gotten rather good at using.
"Alright, I know the text I sent made it seem really urgent-"
"-are you kidding?! I was taking a bath!" Glamour exclaims.
"Nobody cares about your stupid bath, Glamour!" Bones says.
"Can you guys shut up? Let me finish. I found a picture of the Evil Angel in my photos. She was standing right near this building." I point at the abandoned coffee shop.
"If we enter this thing, isn't that, like, illegal?" Ferdinand asks.
"No, it's a site for the public to use," Lucifer says. "It's a new thing they passed a week ago."
"My point being, I think we should investigate this thing," I say.
"It looks creepy," Amaya says.
"You know what our job is?"
"To kick butt?" Terri suggests.
"To investigate creepy buildings."
"Oh, sorry, didn't realize we were paranormal investigators now!"
"Guys, can you just suck it up and walk inside! This is just a theory. If we actually prove that the Evil Angel is hiding out here, this gives us something to go on with. The sooner we defeat her, the sooner we get rid of this viral mark. That means we get to go back to our normal lives. Taking baths and stuff."
"Fine," Glamour says, pushing the door open.
The sound of the rusty bell in the coffee shop rings and dust from the ceiling falls on her nose. She sneezes and jumps away. Ferdinand holds the door while everyone walks in. The door closes with a loud slam, and we all scream.
"Isn't this on the list of one of the most haunted places on Earth?" Bones says.
"No, Bones," Lucifer says. "What the h*ll do you think this is, The White House? We're not going to see the ghost of a first lady walking around?"
"The White House is haunted?!" Amaya shrieks.
"So much for going to Washington DC for spring break," Terri says.
"Guys, focus!" I say, waving my arms to grab their attention.
We all split up and begin to explore the coffee shop for any sign that the Evil Angel might be here.
"I just want to say that it was not my decision to make Terry the leader," Glamour says.
"At least we're getting something done," Celeste says. "With you as our leader, we'd be getting mani-pedis every Saturday and watching rom-coms."
"I could say the same for you-"
"Guys, I found something," Ferdinand says, grabbing the quarreling girls' attention.
We all look at where he stands. He's right by the kitchen doors. There is a large lever hooked to the wall.
"I'm gonna pull it!" Amaya says, pulling it before anyone can tell her not to.
"Reminder to never let Amaya pull or push anything," Lucifer says, rubbing his temples.
"I'm sorry, it's just so satisfying to touch buttons!"
