"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination." - Tommy Lasorda
PRESENT DAY
PHOENIX

Everyone's reaction to me being a demigod was sweet. They all showed that they supported me, even Glamour and Lucifer—the most uppity. Today we were all ready for something else, too. We had waited for the right time—when all of our parents were out running an errand or at work. We had gathered at Celeste's house and told Xan what we were doing.

"Are you sure you all are ready?" Xan asks as we prepare our weapons.

Celeste sheaths her sword while Amaya spins her trident around. They look at me, and I nod at Xan.

"This time we have a plan," I say.

"Here, use these," Ava says, handing us all earpieces. She had become our engineer and was always designing something new for us to use in our battles.

"These won't malfunction, right?" Bones asks.

Ava shakes her head. "I've installed a much larger range. It won't go any further than Ferdinand's house."

"Cool," Amaya says. "I can't wait to try these out."

"If anything happens, send me an SOS signal in morse code."

"Who knows morse code?"

Lucifer, Celeste, Glamour, Ava, and I all raise our hands, and Amaya rolls her eyes.

"Good luck, you guys," Ava says, waving.

"Oh, my gosh, stop treating this like we're going to the other side of the country and heading to the frontlines of a battle!" Terri groans.

We walk to the coffee shop and lock the door so nobody comes in.

"Can I pull the lever this time?" Amaya asks.

"You pulled the lever last time, and no," Lucifer says, stepping in front of her and pulling the lever down.

We all step inside the elevator.

"Anybody scared?" Bones asks on the ride down.

Terri raises his hand.

"We've got this, guys. We just need to get in and out, steal the blueprints, and make a run for it," I try to reassure them although I am a little scared myself.

"Easier said than done," Lucifer says.

"Be a little more positive, will you?" Celeste says.

"Easier said than done."

We all laugh, and the elevator stops. I try to remember what Bellroc said about fear as I walk through the warehouse and try to find the blueprints. But after taking a few steps, something hard hits the back of my head, and in a blinding flash of pain, I hit the floor.

When I wake up, my head stings. It takes a few blinks to get everything to stop making buzzing noises. I stand up and walk forwards, but I have chains on my legs and cuffs surrounding my hands. I try to pull away from them, but it doesn't move. What happened? I look around. Everyone, including me, was in a cage. Lucifer, Celeste, Amaya, and Terri had the same cuffs as me. Glamour has cuffs around her legs and can't even move her feet at all.

"What the heck is going on?" Terri asks.

"Thank you so much, Terry," Glamour says sarcastically.

"Shut it. We need to be working together rather than trying to make everybody else p*ssed off," Lucifer says.

"Okay, Mr. High and Mighty, what do you propose? Even though technically it was Terry's idea to do this in the first place."

"What do we do?" Ferdinand asks.
