"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." - John C. Maxwell
PRESENT DAY
PHOENIX
I enter the Arcane Order's fortress. Nari sits on the couch, knitting. Skrael is playing chess at the kitchen table by himself and strangely...winning.
"Phoenix!" Nari jumps from the couch and hugs me. "I thought you would never come back!"
"What? I would never leave you guys."
"So how have you been?"
"Doing school work. The school just sent out an email saying they were going to open on Monday."
Skrael perks up and looks at me.
"So I will be back tomorrow."
"Aw, I thought I did plenty of damage," Skrael says.
"You did, we just started clearing it out sooner."
I look around the living room. "Where's Bellroc?"
"She went looking for her time pieces." Skrael jumps from his seat, walks over the table and over to me. "Seen any? She's been scanning the Universal Plane all day."
I want to tell him that I found a piece in the Evil Angel's workshop, but I didn't want him or Bellroc to start worrying about it being in the hands of a mortal.
"No, but I have been looking."
"So how did you find the other piece?"
"A friend discovered it in another dimension. It must be in the other dimensions or here. I can't cover every square inch of the world over the span of ten minutes. I'm not a snow traveler like you."
Skrael looks surprised.
"What?" I say.
"In the past millions of years of having been with you, I'm not used to you saying long sentences."
"What do you mean?"
"You didn't talk very much," Nari says. "And whenever you did, it was something like "yes", "no", and "probably"."
"Nari did most of the talking while you stood behind me or Bellroc."
"I am not talkative!" Nari says.
"Yes, you are. You insist on doing the introduction everytime we meet new people."
"That's because when people see you they think you're going to kill them. I am well-liked."
"Cancel it, you two," Bellroc says.
A glowing, fiery portal opens in the middle of the living room, and Bellroc walks through.
"Sorry," Skrael and Nari say, lowering their heads.
Bellroc smiles when she sees me.
"No luck?" I ask.
She shakes her head.
"How did you lose them?"
"While fighting a leviathan, they were stolen. I tried to get them back, and the thief along with the time pieces all fell into multiple dimensions except for one, which I had before you found it."
"How long was that ago?"
"Four hundred years."
"Give or take a few centuries," Skrael adds.
"Aren't leviathans, like, extinct now?" Nari asks.
"Nobody was talking about leviathans, Nari. Besides, you keep using the word 'like' inappropriately."
