Y/N's POV

You are currently looking through the racks in the dress section of Beach City's local clothing shop.

You wanted to wear something to make Steven stare at you, so you searched for short flowy dresses. You wanted something cute and fun but also calm and casual,
but you only found one dress that was good enough.

You needed everything to be perfect, but all the other dresses were just so boring. You sighed and grumpily paid for the dress you were holding, then threw the others back onto the rack.

Needless to say, you were annoyed. You turned up the music in your headphones and stormed out of the store. You threw your hands in your pockets and started toward the next clothing store.

Steven's POV

"Oooh, I like this one!" Connie exclaimed. Steven had recruited her to help him shop for clothes for your date, and so far he'd gone through about fifty shirts but only found one for Saturday.

"Are you sure?" he said, turning in the mirror. Before she could answer, Steven went back into the dressing room to change.

"By the way, I'm not done scolding you!" Connie said, glaring at the dressing room curtain. "You have me helping you for a date with a girl I haven't met yet? Scratch that - a girl that NO ONE has met yet!"

"She's not a people person!" Steven defended behind the curtain.

"She's got to meet us eventually," she crossed her arms.

Steven came from the dressing room in a different shirt.

"She will, I just... I don't want to pressure her."

"Aweee," Connie playfully punched his arm. "You really like her, huh?"

Steven blushed as a response.

"Wear this shirt," she patted his back. It was a cute button-up with cartoonish pastel flowers on it. "And after this date, I'm meeting her," she stood straight with her hands on her hips. "Gotta make sure my jam bud is in good hands," she said with a smile.

Steven smiled back and let out a small chuckle. Connie's always been pretty protective of him despite him being half-gem and perfectly capable of taking care of himself. "Alright, let me buy this, then I'll drive you home."

Y/N's POV

You've been to about every store in Beach City and have only found one dress good enough for a date with Steven. You bought a milkshake and slumped down on a bench on the boardwalk. With nothing left to do, you stared at your slowly melting drink. You wanted to look good for Steven, but so far the clothes have sucked. You sadly sipped your drink.

"Ugh!" you threw it to the ground. As if today couldn't get worse, they make their milkshakes with ice. You tucked your legs to your chest and put your head into your knees. You were ready to just cry when you remembered. You already have a beautiful dress that would be perfect, except... it's in your closet, in your room, at your mother's house.

Well, you're just shit out of luck, ain't you?

"How am I supposed to get those?" you thought out loud, but you were determined. Determined enough to wind up at your mother's doorstep, but not enough to knock. Her car was out front, and you were terrified of her.

☁️Maybe this wasn't the best idea...☁️

You thought, suddenly finding yourself with cold feet. You began to walk away but stopped yourself. You NEEDED that dress. And so you stacked some flat rocks from the front garden onto the table until you could reach the top of the patio.

Slowly, you climbed up, making sure to be quiet so as not to alert your mother. You climbed onto the windowsill from the guest room, and you almost slipped, but you were almost there.

You slowly climbed the side of the roof so as not to fall to your death, and you made it to your window, which was still open from when Steven whisked you away.

You climbed inside and breathed a sigh of relief. After a short breather, you grabbed the dresses and made your way back down, making sure to return the rocks to their places and moving the table back to its rightful place.

And then you tripped. You tripped over one of the chairs, effectively knocking over the others. They all clunked together like the kitchen tiles and a spoon when you make food at 3:00 AM.

You looked like a deer in headlights, staring at the front door, waiting for it to open, and only when it opened, you ran like hell. You heard your mother yelling after you, but you paid no heed. You ran until your lungs burned and the aching in your legs grew like a festering blister.

Despite the pain you were in, you were ecstatic. You had your dress, and you were confident you'd look great. You ran the rest of the way back to Steven's house.

You tiredly made your way up the stairs of the beach house and stumbled your way inside. You then slowly climbed up the stairs to Steven's room, finding Steven contently lying in bed, distracted by something on his phone. You stumbled over and plopped down onto Steven.

"Oof!" Steven looked up from his phone before smiling. "Hey there, gorgeous," he reached down and patted your head.

"...that feels good," you said, your voice muffled into Steven's tummy. You two stayed in each other's embrace for a while before Steven spoke up.

"Soooo...." he started

you looked up at him, waiting for him to continue talking

"I uhh," a blush formed on his face, "I feel like I should tell you this because it's your... uhm... body."

You sat up, confused, and looked him in the eyes, waiting for him to continue.

"So... remember when I kinda possessed your body with my gem powers?"

"Yeah?" you tilted your head in confusion.

"Well... "
