Ruth

Seyi's POV

"Hi, Seyi."

She was standing right in front of me.

"Hi," I replied.

"Mind if I sit?"

"Sure."

She took the seat Derek had been occupying earlier. Derek was now talking to Ruth.

"Didn't expect to see you here, considering your fiancée was at my restaurant this morning."

Her restaurant?

"Oh... well, a problem came up with my company, so I had to leave. Now, I'm just catching up with Derek."

"The fraudulent issue?"

"Ugh... no. Something else, actually."

"I see." She nodded. "Your friend keeps calling me Jemima, and I recall she was... your friend."

"Best friend, actually. And, well, you do look like her."

"It must be weird seeing someone who looks like your... dead best friend."

I shrugged, not wanting to talk about Jemima. "Yeah."

An awkward silence settled between us.

"So, uh... Zina said you both have fixed a date for your wedding."

Have we?

"Uhmm... yeah. I think."

"She said it was in August."

August? That was close. I hadn't even introduced her to my parents yet.

"Yeah. August."

"Well, congratulations, then." Her face was unreadable, her tone flat.

"Thanks."

"I better get back. Ruth has been flashing me stares." She stood up.

"Oh. Sure."

"Nice meeting you again," she said before walking back to her table.

When she got there, Derek smiled at her, said something, then returned to sit with me.

"How was the talk?" I asked as he sat down.

"A bit eventful. She wasn't interested, I could tell, but I got her number."

I laughed. "You're really determined."

Derek grinned. "Of course... How was your chat with Miss Jemima?" He smirked.

I rolled my eyes. "I have a fiancée, I'm not interested, and besides, she's not Jemima."

He shrugged, taking a bite of his food. "But she does look like her."
