Let us go back in time for no small amount of time.
At the end of January 1562, a situation occurred where Nobunaga Oda was half glaring at the young man, Nagamasa Azai, right in front of him. Though he was glaring, Nobunaga maintained an extremely calm demeanor on the surface. The reason being that beside Nobunaga stood his wife, Yoshiko, with narrowed eyes, holding a handgun in her pocket and aiming it at her husband while engaging in a conversation with Nagamasa.
"Today, I ask that you honestly grant me permission to marry Oichi."
"I understand."
"You are not lying, are you? If you lie, I will shoot you."
Before the conversation started, Yoshiko said that while truly hiding a handgun in her pocket.
Where in the world does a wife aim a gun at her husband? No, she was standing right beside him. Nobunaga thought to himself, disregarding his own actions.
The catalyst for this situation was that Oichi and the young man in front of her, Nagamasa, had fallen deeply in love while working at the India Company and expressed their desire to get married. The Azai clan hailed from the country's local samurai in Ōmi, and it was an absolutely suitable marriage proposal in terms of social status for Oichi. However, Nobunaga instinctively reacted with emotional opposition, shouting that he would never allow this marriage. He had intended to find a good husband for his adorable sister Oichi, but she had brought a potential groom on her own.
However, Yoshiko took a liking to Nagamasa and actively supported him as a suitable husband for Oichi. Furthermore, she even used her connections to her adoptive father, Shoichi, to intervene on their behalf (regarding this, it was incomprehensible to Yoshiko, but Shoichi muttered, "It's truly surprising that those two would marry as my history dictates," and gave his blessings to Oichi and Nagamasa's marriage). Additionally, Yoshiko went as far as to lobby around the Oda clan in Owari through the Hirate family, who had mediated their marriage, and the Ikeda clan, Ōochi's family. As a result, a complete encirclement around Nobunaga was formed regarding this marriage.
In such a situation, Nobunaga's bad habit emerged. As Ōochi said, "That's a habit he's had since childhood."
That's right, Nobunaga evaded this marriage discussion by escaping from the encirclement.
He used the excuse that "It's necessary to quickly establish the Imperial Japanese All Labor Union" and wandered around various parts of Japan, trying to avoid this marriage. But Yoshiko was cleverer.
"If you don't come back, Oichi will practically elope to Egypt."
"What!? Damn you, Demon King of the Sixth Heaven!"
After receiving a letter written by Yoshiko like that, Nobunaga reluctantly ended up returning home. He had to hold a meeting with Nagamasa about marrying Oichi.
As the head of the Oda clan after the passing of his father, Nobunaga was in a position to grant permission for Oichi's marriage, so such a situation arose. But from Nobunaga's perspective, he was not pleased internally. However, with his wife Yoshiko brandishing a handgun to prevent his escape and threatening him, there was nothing he could do.
Saying "I'm delighted to welcome you, Nagamasa-dono, as my brother-in-law," with a smiling face, Nobunaga had no choice but to sign and seal the marriage certificate for Nagamasa and Oichi.
