Christina had a family to protect.

Not only was she a mother, but a wife and a sister. A daughter-in-law never crossed her mind.

"So hows.." Christina hesitated. What do you even ask in this position? How's your mom? How are you? What's new? How's How's the weather? It should be simple on paper, but it's hard. Some things never change, though. Like Moralton kids.

"Mom! Mom! MOOOM!" Mary screamed, tugging at the arm of her mother. Christina looked away from the screen on her phone and saw the young girl, smiling wide and practically bouncing. "Hold on a second, Block.. What's going on?" She asked.

"Waxine asked me to hang out, can I please?" Mary asked, antsy to get back out. Christina was hesitant, she didn't know the Moralton surrounding her. Was it safe? "I don't know, hon.." Mary replied with hesitance. "Oh come on, she'll be fine." Block laughed it off, shaking his head at his sisters worry. "You decided to play the cool uncle card, huh?" Christina teased.

"So?" Mary asked once more. Christina sighed and shook her head "Okay. You can go."

"Yes!"

"But your brother is coming with you."

"Oh, what?"
---------

"Why is your brother coming with us?" Waxine asked, walking along the street with Mary as Christian followed behind. "Because our mom doesn't trust the neighborhood just yet." Mary sighed, huffing in annoyance.

"Or maybe she doesn't trust you." Christian joked, Mary didn't take too kindly to this. "I'm trustworthy! I am!" There was no way her own mother didn't trust her, just because she's run off here and skipped school there doesn't mean anything!

"Besides, what are you gonna do about it if we get ambushed? Politely ask them to not?" Mary stuck her tongue out at her brother, which only made him laugh. "You're such a nut."

"Ooh, there's an ice cream shop just up ahead! Can you buy us a scoop? Please?" Waxine smiled, her brown eyes too adorable to ignore. Christian groaned and nodded "I'm spending my allowance on this.."

As the two walked toward the small ice cream shaped building, Christian couldn't help but notice the girl running the stand. She looked different from the Moralton teens he had seen on the drive here. A long black braid shoved behind her as she chewed her gum.

"Hi, Melpomene!" Waxine waved, placing her arms on the counter. Melpomene smiled, and it was one that made Christian feel... funny. "Waxine Waxine! What's the word, little fish? Looks like you brought me an audience too.." She gave a quick look to Christian and Mary before asking "What's your story?" To Christian.

"Um.. Babysitting." His breath hitched in his throat. He had never met someone so.. COOL. "Two HUGE scoops of blue moon, please!" Waxine asked before whispering in Mary's ear. Mary laughed and looked to her brother "Can I borrow five dollars?" Christian rolled his eyes and handed her a five, who gave it to Waxine, who gave it to Melpomene.

"Two scoops of blue goodness coming up. And you.." She looked Christian up and down before smirking "Call me Mel."

Mary and Waxine laughed and smiled, sitting on the pavement as they shared the cone. The two were getting closer and closer, Mary couldn't help but feel happy when Waxine was happy. Her smile gave her butterflies.

"What are you?" A voice asked in front of the two. It was a kid a bit older than them, glaring at them both. "Um.. who are you talking to?" Waxine asked, nervously standing up. The kid snickered "Not you, half-breed."

That hurt. Mary wouldn't take any of this. "Hey! Beat it, booger breath!" She snarled, standing in front of Waxine. The kid just smiled "What are you gonna do about it? You're just a nobody." Mary felt shattered, but stood her ground. She got closer to the kid and shoved them. "I said GO." This only added fire to the fuel.

"Mary, stop it!" Waxine cried. Christian raised looked in the direction of the commotion and walked over. "What's going on?" He asked. "Your dyke sister pushed me!"

"Sounds like you had it coming." Mel laughed, glaring at the kid. "I know who your parents are. In fact.. I know where you live. Blue swingset, right?" The kid was scared, stepping away from the group formed in front of him. Mel only smirked "I suggest you go."

As they watched the kid book it, Mel and Christian looked at the two with sad eyes. "You guys okay?" Christian asked, to which they just frowned and shrugged. "That kid bothers me every year.." Waxine frowns.

Mel sighs and gestures for the group to follow. "Come on, you guys should get home."

Moralton kids. Little shits..
