I used to float, now I just fall down

I used to know but I'm not sure now

What I was made for

What was I made for?

Takin' a drive, I was an ideal

Looked so alive, turns out I'm not real

Just something you paid for

What was I made for?

'Cause I, I I don't know how to feel

But I wanna try

I don't know how to feel

But someday, I might Someday, I might

When did it end?

All the enjoyment

I'm sad again, don't tell my boyfriend

It's not what he's made for

What was I made for?

Think I forgot how to be happy

Something I'm not, but something I can be

Something I wait for

Something I'm made for

Something I'm made for

💭 'What was I made for?' from Barbie has OFFICIALLY become the fastest movie soundtrack song to surpass 100 MILLION streams in Spotify history! CONGRATS CHAERI 🥹❤️‍🩹💭 The song by BTS's Chaeri for the Barbie movie needs to be banned because why am I getting so emotional every time I listen to it? This needs to stop.💭 It's kind of a bummer that Chaeri's track from the Barbie movie is on constant replay, because it hits way too close to home for me right now. Every time I really listen to it, it's like a flood of emotions that just makes me want to cry and, honestly, pull my hair out.💭 Kang Chaeri put cocaine in her song for that Barbie movie because I'm addicted

Extracts from interviews

APPLE MUSIC -  "Greta Gerwig made sure that all of us responsible in songwriting for the film got a sneak peek. That really inspired me and opened my mind. I remember on the drive to Hybe I started scribbling on phone notes because I was afraid the words would slip out of my head," Chaeri explained "I didn't think about myself once during the writing process, purely about Barbie. It all came out in one night."

Chaeri mentioned that the movie, its perspective on Barbie, and the emotions the character would go through "completely inspired" her. Nevertheless, she quickly came to recognize that the song was essentially a reflection of herself.

"Once I was done, I realized that I had actually been writing for myself. It's one of the most incredible things I've experienced in life. The next week I played it in the car with Yoongi and Namjoon-they were the only ones who I let hear it before it was released. And as it played I thought 'This is exactly how I feel. And I didn't even mean to be saying it.' "

BILLBOARD - "You mention on your instagram that until the opportunity to compose a song for Barbie, you've never made one yourself. How did you handle this?"

"When it was first proposed to me, I was skeptical. So was my manager" Chaeri laughs "It wasn't a prerogative for me to write it, but rather for me to sing it and..I thought that's how it would go. I've never been a central point in songwriting with my group" Chaeri, the youngest member of BTS, recounts how she was unfamiliar with songwriting before now "Me and the members...we all have a specific role. I usually lead them in creating and perfecting choreography."

"I had no intention of trying to (write)" the young celebrity continued. "I find it really hard to talk about my exact feelings in my life and so 'What was I made for?' would never have ever been written. And then it happened."
