THAT NIGHT, ASTER knew she wouldn't be getting much sleep.

She was no stranger to insomnia. It kept her wide awake at night, no matter how tired she was. When she closed her eyes, her lucky little photographic brain would replay memories, sometimes fond but usually not. Especially not after their most recent loss.

A few hours had passed since dinner and the cabin was becoming quieter. As soon as night fell, Morgan was put to bed and the lake had somehow grown more tranquil. Sitting down on the edge of her own bed, Aster pushed her hair to the side with a huff. Her room at the cabin was facing the lake, so the moon reflected off the water and created a soft glow inside.
