As Karan settled in next to Veer on the couch in the special room dedicated to Veer at the Umang Manor, he playfully asked, "Did I steer you in the right direction or lead you astray?"

Veer shot him a mock glare, then chuckled, "Who knows?"

"Don't even try to lie to me," Karan teased. "If you still claim that your feelings for her are just friendship, I'll ship you off to Mars! It's written all over your face!"

Veer couldn't help but laugh, "Really? What does it say?"

"It says, you fallen hard for the princess of Roopgarh!"

Veer smiled softly, finally acknowledging his true feelings. He took a deep breath, put down his glass of scotch, and walked over to the French windows. As he gazed at the falling snowflakes, his smile faded.

"It's not just about my feelings, Karan," Veer said seriously. "There's so much more at play here."

"What exactly?" Karan asked, confused. "What could possibly be so important that you can't let go of it? It was 200 years ago, buddy. What could still be unfulfilled?"

Veer sighed deeply. "You're right. It was 200 years ago and I can't change the past. The Roopgarh royals are now responsible for their own history and family burdens."

Despite Karan's lack of understanding, he didn't push for more information. He cared deeply for Veer, who had saved his life twice. The first time was when they were in boarding school, and Veer followed Karan and saved him from a group of hostile rural kids. And then, in college, when Karan was struggling with drug addiction, Veer dropped everything to help him, enrolling him in rehab and checking up on him until he recovered. It was thanks to Veer that Karan was able to turn his life around. Harika wouldn't have been in his life if it wasn't for Veer's help in getting him cleaned up. He trusted Veer blindly and would do anything for him.

"But, I have to do what I am supposed to do." Veer continued, "What's the update on the girl? You have eyes on her, don't you?"

Karan sighed, "Yes brother! I have done everything as you asked. She is under surveillance, and just as you requested, Lohit Yadav is heading the team. You don't have to worry a thing!"

Veer shook his head, "You have no idea what's at play here. Every day, I am just praying that it's all for nothing and a waste of time. I am hoping I am wrong, I am overthinking and all of this is bullshit."

"If it was bullshit, you wouldn't have had 12 people watching over a girl. Believe it or not, Veer, the so-called princess of Rudragarh who sent you letters, is bad news. From all that I have, I can assure you, she is a con artist. She has multiple locations, and various identities and wears a new persona every once in three years. When I started to dig into her past, I could only go back to the last 10 years. None of what I found makes any sense. However, whatever you have inferred from this, is the only possible explanation that connects all the dots!"
