(Inspired by "The Moon Will Sing" by The Crane Wives)
At night, I find myself thinking of you,
how we told each other our deepest secrets and desires
and how much we wanted a future together.I remember looking at the moon and stars,
how peaceful they were. I had told you that one of my deepest desires was to go out in a truck bed in a field of flowers late at nightand count the stars.
You had told me, I reminded you of the moon.
Now, whenever I think of you, the moon sings.Because I loved you like the sun.
I bear the shadows you cast on my heart,
no longer left with a light to call my own.I would ask,
Why me? You could have anyone, so why choose me?You had told me, because you loved me.
I try to use the light you gave me to give hope to others,
Now my light is flickering.
How can I supply hope when I have none?I loved you like the sun,
But you did not. I was nothing more than the countless stars in your sky.
I hoped that you could have loved me like the moon.
Perhaps, in another life,
I could have called you my own.And yet, I am glad I met you. I am glad that your warmth, albeit temporary, was enough to give me hope.
I still love you like the sun.
And I would have waited forever,
If it meant getting to spend a lifetime with you.
