I put on the dress Klaus bought me in New Orleans. When I looked in the mirror, I remembered the moment we had.

"How's this?"

"It's nice" he wasn't looking me

"You have to look up"

His eyes met mine in the mirror.

I picked up my purse, got in my car and left for brunch. I went over in my head the various things I shouldn't mention like, vampires or any supernatural.

I haven't decided if I wanted this child to know about my lifestyle. Honesty is the best policy but what if my secret gets out? I can't just pretend I didn't tell her.

I'm most afraid that if she's who I truly am she'll be frightened, I don't want to be a monster.

I walked into the small cafe, it was quiet and cozy. Many people were there reading and having coffee and some were typing away on their computers. My eyes looked around for the women I met with yesterday.

I found her and she was sitting with a little girl. The little girl had her dark hair out in curls. She had coffee colored skin plus the creamer. Her eyes were green like Niks and her smile was just as beautiful.

"Hello," I smiled at the women in front of me

"I wanted you to meet Esther," the woman announced

"Hi Esther, I'm Caroline," I smiled at the beautiful little girl

"Hi," she said in a small voice

"How old are you?"

"This many," she held up five fingers

"That's super old!" I exclaimed

"I know," she smiled at my joke

"Ms. Forbes-Mikealson, today after you sign these papers, you can take Esther home with you," she said kindly

"Can you believe it?" I asked rhetorically

The only person I wanted to answer that question was Nik, we would be a family. I can see it now, coming home from a fulfilling day at work and Nik and Esther are chasing each other around the house. But that was something I could only imagine.

"Why do you have two last names?"

"Well one is from my mommy and the other is from my fiancé," I said calmly

"Where is he?"

"He's gone," I kept my composure

"He's gone? To where?"

"To Heaven, I hope," I smiled

"Where's your mommy?"

"Grandma is in Heaven too,"

"Do you think they're talking to each other?"

"I hope so," I signed the papers as I told stories about my childhood to Esther

"What should I call you?"

"If you feel comfortable call me mommy or mom and if you don't you can call me Care or Caroline," I suggested

"I've never had a mommy before," she said quietly

"Well I pinky promise to be the best mommy in the whole wide world," our fingers locked.

I promise.
