I needed Bonnie to put a protection spell on the house but I didn't want Esther to know so I asked Elena to take her for a little while. The protection spell Bonnie was using would make it so I'd have to invite you in vampire or not. I wanted to keep Esther as far from Tyler as possible and I'd do whatever was necessary.

"Thank you Bon," I said sincerely

"No problem, why don't you just tell her?"

"I want her to accept me, I don't want to bring her into all this craziness," I explained

"And what's going to happen if she doesn't have the knowledge? She'll get killed or turned. She's going to noticed that you don't have grey hair or wrinkles. You can't keep this from her," Bonnie said

"I know, but she's too young to understand. I don't want to frighten her,"

"Yeah but just don't leave her in the dark, in a way you're also protecting her,"

"It doesn't feel like it," I argued

"But lying isn't protecting her either," Bonnie had a point.

Lying to Esther wouldn't strengthen our relationship, it'd cause it to diminish.

"Time for bed love," I said in Klaus' accent

"Mommy, can you tell me about Daddy?"

"What do you want to know?"

"What was he like?"

"Daddy's name was Nikklaus Mikealson, he has four siblings. Daddy was a good man that loved me. You see, there are bad people in the world and there are people who do bad things. Daddy wasn't a bad person but he did some bad things but then he met me. After he met me, he changed. He saw that I was good and he wanted to be good, for me," I thought of him and a smile crept onto my face

"Why don't I see my aunts and uncles?"

"They were very sad when they heard what happened to Daddy and they moved away and gave us this house,"

"Do you miss him?"

"I miss him as much as I love you," I said with a frown

"I miss him too, I'm sure he would have been a great daddy," Esther kissed me on the cheek

"Mommy?"

"Yes sweetheart," I stopped in my tracks

"Can you check the bed and closet for monsters?"

"Anything for you," I slowly walked over to the closet and looked inside and then did the same with the bed

"Thorough investigation, no monsters reside here," I said with a laugh

"I love you Mommy,"

"I love you too," I kissed her forehead before leaving the room.

Once I got into my room, I cried. I cried because I couldn't be honest with my daughter, I cried because I missed the man that I was supposed to spend forever with, and I cried because it hurt. It hurt too much to lose my mother and my epic love.

I thought this was going to be easy.
