And Hero waits her love to heed
Who swims each night across the sea
For just another time she lights
Her lamp to guide him through the night. And calm she waits his task she knows
Already's start by habit's hold.
But just as Hero wait's she spies
The stars now eaten out of skiesThen sudden roar and flash of light
Do warn the maid of stormy night.
And Hero goes more lamps to light
In hopes to aid her lover's sight. The winds they gall the waves they crash
The seas now foam and rains do lash.
And hours and hours and light and light
She adds but love's no where in sight. Then waves do calm and seas do deign
To once again a calmness feign.
And Hero's hurt this thing she knows
No mortal man could live through blowsAs one the priestess just had seen
Her lover's death was thing she deemed.
And Hero high on tower falls
To rocks below where oceans call. And many hours Hero laid
On rocks to which her life was gave.
And just then splashing sure was hear
No one alive their heart to stir. For Lyander high above the rest
The gale that night had surely best.
And their her body found he laid
With only rocks as lover's grave.Into his arms he priestess swept
Where many times she safe was kept.
Into the sea Lyander strides
Where both their bodies down were lied.
