Pedro and Ines

Against his father son did war
As Henry's sons an age before
On other side of war we see
The man who's fate we're deemed to heed

By dint of song I present sing's
Not fickle grace but nuanced thing
To bid you readjust your mind
So justice here you'll also find

When just before I bid you bay
An early throne for prince depraved
In England's land but here I say
Was Pedro's act yet very brave.

And war was waged against his king
Who many armies forward deemed
To daunt his son from future claim
Before he deemed his time had came

But queenly mother soon then stole
Into the camp her son abode
And bid him hear her words she spoke
In hopes that task he went on's broke

"My son I bid you vengeance stay
For father seek not early grave
For threat your manner should become
Like one who's claim you'd have undone

For sake of vengeance thrice he's erred
And harmed the one he claims as heir
Yet once when man did bid you bide
With dame unknown as prince's bride

For sake of war with Castille's king
He cared not harm this vow would bring
On party uninvolved with work
His son in law had done to hurt

His daughter though she's spoiled well
Before and after woman dwelled
Inside the halls of husband's court
She left when women king did court

And once again when king refrained
To Ines give as Pedro's dame
For sharing nation gave he cause
The very same as son-in-laws

So king that day did surely claim
That Castille's blood no queenly fame
Would ever hold inside his court
Again your joy for vengeance thwart

In which you held no part beside
The man with which you did abide.
Then third when king in anger grew
And had your Ines fair then slew

For sake of spite not yet your own
He used your hand his swords to hone.
Now please I bid from foe to learn
This wicked act to surely spurn

To others use as pawns in game
By hook or crook to vengeance claim
That men no part do present own
The guilt for which you sure atone

As sire to son so son to men
You send to war to meet their end
For sake avenging crime not wrought
By any here you've present brought

And punish those no crime who made
For which they dost deserve the blade...
Now look on men and Ines see
Without a crime as bride to be

Was also pure no guilt did own
To credence grant for blade he honed
Unto her form so also those
On whom this war you would impose.

Now mercy show not for your kin
Alone I plead for warring men
For everyone you've mustered forth
Is someone's Ines gave to thwart

Your father's rule and end his reign
By stripping man of kingly claim.
But lo my son if single act
Does warrant such a penal tact

Then woe for guilt on head that lies
Of prince when all these gathered die.
If single Ines buys a war
What price you'll pay for scores on scores."
