Then Erotokitos heard her quest
How princess sought with great behest
An automata craft for kings
Who all the songs she loved would sing.

And heart that day a fickle plan
Did craft to sure betray the man.
Not once before beyond his scant
Station birth to him had grant

Did servant ever dare to rise
To any love on girl reprise
But just this once his oaths forswore
And duties gave to knights' ignored.

Another's delight found their lied
The only pleasure he'd not deny
Himself though duty sure declared
The chore he takes not be yet dared.

For love that bid him distance keep
Was also thing that bayed him seek
The one with which it caution deigned
To every act of love refrain

From showing though for thing he longs
His only respite gave through song.
And so he goes to sing to maid
As longing will to man had bayed.

Beneath her window vassal stole
To grant her song at night his goal.
With breath from chilly winds there drew
A tune from lips of knight then grew.

And music lent its soul to words
That princess beauty might be heard
If not in words then tone of speech
With which that night he love beseeched

What prose can't deign can music say
By feelings song alone conveys...

That lets yet more than just what's told
The hearts and minds of men to know.
And there that knight his music sings
Of beauty grant to heir of king.

And to the window princess flew
Her curtains back she hasty drew
To see what lovely voice did light
And bring her music deep in night.

But hid that night the vassal stayed
No hint or clue he ever gave
But every eve again he's drawn
To sing his love her nightly song.
