Best Christmas Ever (Betty)

Betty's POV

I was petting my dog Maple's head before sighing. Betty- "Just you and me again bud, huh" I laid my head down on the back of the couch and just closed my eyes.

I lived alone in the old Cooper house by myself. Everyone else left Riverdale and I was completely alone in the town that I lived in my whole life. I of course knew most of the people who I grew up knowing but all my friends and family were gone

I adopted a dog so I didn't feel so alone but it still wasn't like having a human being in my life

I worked at the riverdale register and loved reporting on peoples lives mainly because they were more interesting than mine, until one night

I was sitting with Maple's head on my lap as I heard a small knock on the door. Maple's head popped up as I looked at him. He got up and ran to the door as I slowly followed him.

Betty- "who's that Mape?" He jumped on the door which wasn't normal for him to do as I scrunched my eyebrows before opening the door

I looked around outside before looking down and seeing a little girl and boy who looked about the same age holding hands. They were no older than four or five and were only wearing pants and t-shirts.

Betty- "oh my gosh, are you two okay?" They both were crying and shaking so I just brought them inside.

I sat them on the couch and gave them a blanket before lighting the fire. I sat down beside them and just took the girls icy cold hand. Betty- (softly) "do you guys need help?" The girl looked at the boy before he nodded and sniffed

The Boy- "mommy left us" a little piece of my heart broke off as the girl started crying again. I pulled her into my lap and comforted her. Betty- "how long were you guys outside?" The Boy- "it got dark.. five times, and light four" Betty- "I'm gonna take you to the hospital, okay? I'll stay with you as much as I can. Can you tell me your names?"

Parker- "I-I Parker, she Payton" I sighed of relief before I gave them both a sweater that were huge but it was better than nothing before I drove them to the hospital. I drove really slow since they didn't have car seats but luckily it wasn't far. We got them checked in and as I promised, I stayed with them for as long as possible. They shared a room and were actually doing very well

Betty- "so, are you two excited for Christmas?" They looked at each other again before Payton shrugged. Payton- "mommy said we were.. um spoiled I-I think" Parker- "yeah, so we open things, but she takes them" Betty- "that sounds terrible guys, I-I'm sorry"

I sat in between their beds and held their hands. Betty- "I-I'll tell you what, I promise that I am going to give you the best Christmas ever. Sound good?" They both smiled for the first time since I met them and nodded there heads. Parker- "Betty? Are you going to take care of us?"

I looked between them and smiled. Betty- "I'm gonna try as hard as I can to stay with you two, I promise" they both smiled bigger as I kissed their hands.

They stayed in th hospital for three days before I was aloud to take them home. The sheriffs station said that I was aloud to foster them while they looked for their birth mother which was scary but I was glad to be there for them

Payton- "Be-Be? Where's your tree?" Parker- "yeah, and presents?" Betty- "well I thought we could get the tree together, and your presents are hidden. Plus Santa is bringing you some too" their eyes lit up as they looked at each other. Payton- "Santa's coming?! Really?!" Betty- (giggles) "yep, it's going to be the best Christmas"

Payton ran and jumped into my arms as Parker hugged my legs. Betty- (laughs) "alright, we should probably go get a tree before they're all gone" they nodded their heads and we walked to the car. We found a perfect little tree at the farm and the kids immediately fell in love with it

Payton- "thank you so much Be-Be" Parker- "yeah! This is the best" Betty- "well I'm glad you're happy"

Three days later

It was Christmas eve and the kids were super excited. We made cookies and watched their favourite Christmas movie until Parker was asleep on top of me. Payton- "Betty? Can I ask you something?" Betty- "of course sweetheart, anything"

I carefully lifted Parker up and put him beside us before putting her on my lap. Payton- "If mommy doesn't take us back, would you be our new mommy?" I smiled and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. Betty- "we'll have to see sweetie, but I would try my very hardest to keep you two" Payton- (smiles) "I love you Be-Be"

She hugged me tightly and laid down on chest. Betty- (giggles) "I love you too, now let's get you two to bed. I heard Santa's already left the North Pole" she gasped before jumping up and grabbing my hand. Payton- "c'mon! we have to get to sleep!"

I laughed as I picked Parker up and laid him on my shoulder. Parker- (softly) "I wish you were our mommy" I smiled and kissed his head. I laid him down as Payton laid down beside him.

Betty- "good night my sweeties, we're gonna have the best Christmas ever"

I kissed both their heads before softly closing the door and running downstairs. I was running around and trying not to trip on Maple as he was following me everywhere when my phone started ringing.

(On the phone)

Betty- "hello?" ??- "hi, is this Elizabeth Cooper?" Betty- "yes, is this about Payton and Parker?" ??- "as a matter of fact, yes it is. My name is Mrs, Weiss. I'm calling to tell you that they located their birth mother and she's been arrested for child abuse and endangerment. We tried to locate the father but he wasn't interested. So I'll be by in a couple days to collect the kids and they'll be placed in a foster home" Betty- "w-wait, can I foster o-or even adopt them? There must be something I can do"

There was a long pause before I heard her sigh. Mrs, Weiss- "I guess I could pull some strings, are you willing to actually adopt them?" Betty- (smiles) "I am, I promise. You can even come by for a home inspection" Mrs, weiss- (laughs) "that won't be necessary Ms Cooper, I'll simply make a court date" Betty- (in tears) "t-thank you, so much. A-And happy holidays"

(Off the phone)

I put my phone to my chest as I cried more happy tears. Betty- (whispered) "can you believe it Maple!? I'm gonna be a mom to those amazing kids" I kissed the top of his head before finishing the living room and heading up to bed myself

The next morning I woke up to two very excited children very early in the morning. Parker- "Be-Be! Wake up! It's Christmas!" Payton- "do you think Santa came?!" Betty- (laughs) "I don't know, we'll have to go see"

They both grabbed one of my arms and pulled me downstairs. Payton- "oh my gosh!" Parker- "look at all of the presents!"

They ran over to the tree as I sat on the couch with Maple. Betty- "do you guys wanna look at your stockings first?" They nodded before running over to the coffee table. They opened them and watching their faces was the best Christmas present I could have ever asked for

Their smiles were so big, and It made me so happy. They were so excited and it made me feel amazing because I put those smiles on their faces

I sat with them as they opened their presents. I got them everything they asked for and more. I loved these kids and I couldn't wait to tell them the big news

Betty- "are you sure that's every present?" They looked around and under the tree as I tried to hide my smile. Payton- "definitely, we looked everywhere" Parker- "we even opened Maple's presents" Betty- "hmm, that's weird because I swore-" I got up and walked to the tree before pulling an envelope from behind it

Payton- "what's that?" Betty- "let's open it and see" They helped me open it and I was so excited to read it to them

Betty- "Dear Parker and Payton,

We talked a little last night and I was wondering if you were interested in coming to live with me full time so we could become a true family. I love you both so much and I would love to make every Christmas the best Christmas ever

Love, Be-be"

They looked at each other for a second as I bit my lip. Betty- "so, what do you guys think?" They smiled and hugged me tightly

Payton- "yes! Please take care of us" Parker- "we love you too"

I held my kiddos as Maple came over and licked all of our faces. I couldn't wait to officially adopt them and I was so happy to have the best Christmas ever!
