"Welcome!" said Dumbledore, the candlelight shimmering on his beard. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say to you all, and as one of them is very serious, I think it best to get it out of the way before you become befuddled by our excellent feast. . . " Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued, "As you will all be aware after their search of the Hogwarts Express, our school is presently playing host to some of the dementors of Azkaban, who are here on Ministry of Magic business."

"That's insane." whispered Adrian next to Y/n. "What, are they going to be wandering the halls?"

"They are stationed at every entrance to the grounds," Dumbledore continued, "and while they are with us, I must make it plain that nobody is to leave school without permission. Dementors are not to be fooled by tricks or disguises— or even Invisibility Cloaks. It is not in the nature of a dementor to understand pleading or excuses. I therefore warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. I look to the prefects, and our new Head Boy and Girl, to make sure that no student runs afoul of the dementors,"

"I already hate being a Prefect." mumbled Adrian. Y/n turned to look at him, making a face.

"On a happier note," Dumbledore continued. "I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our ranks this year. First, Professor Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."

"He's pretty." said Y/n looking up at the teacher. Benjamin turned to look at her as she smiled. "You're prettier."

"Mmhm, don't get any ideas. You're marrying me." said Benjamin. She smiled, nodding her head.

"As to our second new appointment," Dumbledore continued as the lukewarm applause for Professor Lupin died away. "Well, I am sorry to tell you that Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, retired at the end of last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs. However, I am delighted to say that his place will be filled by none other than Rubeus Hagrid, who has agreed to take on this teaching job in addition to his game keeping duties."

"Hm." said Y/n turning to up at the teachers. "The year will be definitely interesting."

"Well, I think that's everything of importance," said Dumbledore. "Let the feast begin!" The golden plates and goblets before them filled suddenly with food and drink.

"I think you should really go to the hospital for your hand, Y/n." said Miles looking at her holding the handkerchief around it.

"It's fine, really." said Y/n. "It's just a little cut."

"How did you fall again?" asked Adrian.

"When the train stopped, it pushed me back. I tried stopping myself and I cut my hand on something sharp around the door. Nothing serious, really. Plus, Professor dreamy— I mean Lupin was near and helped me up." smiled Y/n. Ben turned to look at her, making a face.

"I don't find you funny." said Benjamin. Y/n snorted, placing a kiss on his cheek.

"Oh i'm just joking, love." said Y/n.

"Did he give you this little handkerchief too?" asked Benjamin.

"Ah, no sadly." sighed Y/n. Benjamin rolled his eyes, continuing to eat his food and turned to talk to Daniel as Y/n laughed. Miles, Graham and Adrian were staring at Benjamin unpleased. "What?"

"We'll talk later." said Adrian. Y/n turned to Miles and Graham who turned to Adrian. "We'll talk about it later, Y/n/n."

"Hm." said Y/n. Dinner was over and Y/n was walking with Adrian, leading the first years towards the Slytherin entrance.
