chapter thirteen;
unexpected conversations

The moment they got home from the flat after lunch, they decided not to do anything for the rest of the day. They were both too hungover to function, even after Amaya's special magic—and since his parents had left on a mission for the Order that morning, and weren't due to come back until after the full moon in a few days, they didn't need to do anything. They were dead to the point Amaya didn't even go near the library and neither of them felt like going out for a flight.

And so, with Ninny pampering over them, they spend the day lounging in the living room, on opposite ends of the sofa, her legs stretched out on top of his, as they talked about anything and everything and Amaya kicked him in the thigh every few minutes when he tried to tickle her feet that were clad in multi-colored striped socks and adorably smaller than his own.

"Master James is bad," Ninny informed him when he brought them tea in the afternoon, and Amaya snickered at him. "Master James made Miss Maya sick!"

"I didn't do anything, Ninny, she did that all on her own!"

Ninny just huffed at him and went over to Miss Maya to give her the tea that she sat on the coffee table they had dragged closer to the sofa.

"It's true!" said James. "And you know what? She stole my money too."

"You lost it. Fair and square."

"There was nothing fair about that game—"

"Only because I'm smarter," she said with a smirk, her eyes shining with mischief and James narrowed his eyes at her.

"Master James had very good grades, Miss Maya," Ninny informed Amaya, oblivious to the girl's teasing, "Ninny is sure Master James is smart. But Master James is a troublemaker, he is. Miss Maya must put him in line."

And with that, Ninny left with a resounding 'pop' followed by Amaya bursting into giggles that made his lips tug up. "Did you hear that, Potter? I have to put you in line," she said with a laugh.

He grabbed her feet and pulled her toward him making her squeal when her head hit the couch and still she didn't stop laughing.

"You're a menace," he said with a grin and sat up, tickling her sides, and she writhed beneath him in a fit of giggles. He couldn't help but join in the laughter.

"And you're a troublemaker," Amaya gasped with a laugh before grabbing a pillow from behind her and hitting him square in the face, his glasses askew.

"Oh, you asked for it," James said with a grin and grabbed a pillow himself.

Amaya let out a yelp as she shot from the couch, holding her pillow in front of her as James stood up with a smirk. He pounced at her, hitting her in the face and Amaya let out a laugh as she jumped away on top of the couch, hitting him again.
