Happy new year!

One shot chapter for the new year

Macy POV
"I GET TO STAY UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT?!" I yelled. "Yep, tonight's a special night, let's see if you can make it" daddy said laughing. I was so excited! I never got to stay up that late! I ran up to my room to tell Tilly bunny the great news. "Okay Tilly, tonight is a special night, and daddy says we get to stay up until midnight!!" I said to Tilly while I hugged her. It was going to be so fun! Daddy and Mama were making yummy food, and Patricia and Otis were here, and Bethy was hanging out with Jimmy, he's a boy that she says is just her friend but I think she's starting to like him, he moved into the house on the farm over, a couple months ago. I went downstairs to see what everyone was doing and daddy called me into the kitchen. I skipped in there, "I have a surprise for you" he said with a big smile on his face, I looked at him confused, than I heard the back door open. "MAGGIE!!!!!" I screamed, and rushed over to her, she dropped her bags and picked me up, engulfing me in a hug. "How's my sweet baby sister doing?" She asked. "I'm great! Now that you are here!" I exclaimed, wrapping my arms around her again. "I missed you, why don't you come home more?" I questioned, with a sad look on my face. "I'm sorry Mace, college just makes me so busy, I'll make you a promise, my New Year's resolution is to come home and see you more, how about that?" She asked. "I like that a lot, but what's a new years revolution?" I asked confused. Maggie laughed at that. "It's resolution, and it's like something you want to change, do different, now that's it's going to be a new year" she said. I looked at her, "I get it! I want to make one!" I said happily. "Well than, how about we go do that right now, let's let daddy and your mama finish cooking up this yummy food" she said with a wink. She turned to look at daddy, "where's Beth by the way?" She asked. Daddy rolled his eyes, probably out running around with that Jimmy boy, if you see her, tell her I need her help, oh, Otis and Patricia are out in the barn too, fixing one of the horses hooves for me. Go tell them hi also" he said. Maggie put me down and grabbed my hand and we walk out to the barn, Otis and Patricia were just getting done in there and Maggie stopped to talk to them for a bit. After that we went to find Beth real quick, her and Jimmy were sitting under some trees cuddling up together. "I knew it!" I yelled, running over to Beth and Jimmy. "You knew what Macy!" Beth yelled. "That you like Jimmy!" I said in a sing song voice. Beth jumped up, "shut up Macy! You don't know nothin! You aren't even 5 yet!" She yelled. "Beth! Enough! She doesn't know any better!" Maggie yelled. Beth stormed off, Jimmy followed her. "Mace, are you okay?" Maggie asked me. I ran off too the house, and ran up to my room and shut the door and slid under my bed. I started to cry in the private comfort of my room, until I heard the door open. "Mace, come out from under there please, come talk to me" Maggie said. I didn't bother to move a muscle. The next thing I knew is I was being pulled out from under my bed and was face to face with Maggie. She looked at me with a sad smile. "Come on" she said, and lifted me up and we sat on the bed. "Okay Mace, talk to me now, you don't usually let Beth get to you when she says mean things, what's going on?" She questioned. I looked down at my hands. "I miss Beth, she's always with Jimmy or her friends, she doesn't play with me anymore" I replied sadly. Maggie sighed, "Mace, Beth is getting older, she's a teenager, she isn't really into playing anymore, and I know it's hard to understand, but you need to give her space, and let her do what she wants to do, she doesn't love you any less, she's just growing up" Maggie told me. "You aren't around anymore either, I miss you" I said quietly. "Oh Macy, I miss you too, I don't mean to stay away, like I said, my New Year's resolution is to come home more, how about we write yours now also?" Maggie asked. I looked at her and nodded my head. We went and sat at my little tea table and Maggie grabbed a marker and a piece of paper, we sat there for a while thinking and talking about it, and finally we thought of one and wrote it down. "See, now you have it written out, we can tell everyone after supper, how about that?" Maggie asked. I smiled at that. We heard a knock on my door, "come in" Maggie said. Beth came walking in, wringing her hands as she walked. She walked over to me "hey Macy, I'm sorry I got mad and yelled at you, you didn't deserve it, I was just embarrassed, that's still no excuse though, will you forgive me?" Beth asked. I looked at her and smiled and ran over and gave her a hug, "i forgive you! I love you Bethy!" I said. She hugged me back. "Daddy said dinners ready and to get washed up and come down to the table" Beth told us. Maggie got up and we all went to wash our hands and than headed downstairs. We entered the dining room and sat down. Daddy was smiling, "I just love seeing all my girls at home together, makes my heart happy" he said. We all sat down and ate and talked. After we helped clean up, we went and sat on the porch. I sat on Maggie's lap. "Should we tell them your New Year's resolution?" She whispered to me. I smiled and got up, "everybody, I have something to tell you, it's my new years.....new years...." I struggled. "Resolution" Maggie said calmly. "Yea, what Maggie said!" Everybody laughed. "So what is it my darling" Mama asked me. "Maggie, will you help me?" I asked her. "Of course Mace" she said, getting up and coming over. "Macy would like to be more understanding of everyone here, from Beth getting older, and daddy and Annette needing more help on the farm, she'd like a couple more chores if that will help everyone, and she also wants all of us to spend more time together" Maggie said. I looked at her and smiled "yea, I wanna be a better Macy!" I said. "Mace, you are already the best Macy you could ever be" Beth said. I smiled at that. "Yea, we wouldn't ask for anyone else to be our Macy" mama said, and her and daddy came over and gave me a kiss and a hug. That night, as we all sat around waiting for the new year, I was happier than ever. I had the best family anyone could ever have. "I love you Maggie" I whispered, half asleep, wrapped in a blanket on her lap. "I love you too Mace, oh, and happy new year, you made it" she laughed. I fell asleep at that.
