1. This is set somewhere in the Victorian era. Originally it was going to be set in medieval times, but Needle being a magician wouldn't make sense for me since magic shows were invented in the 1800s, which is far from the time period the medieval times were set in.
2. Ehoune (the land the story is set in) is in England, so yes, Tree is technically British (but not really since stuff in the story)
3. This is a fantasy book. Dragons, fairies, and witches are canon.
