Taehyung POV

Things shifted.

Majorly.

More lingering touches, more blushed shared gazes, more hushed conversations late at night as we lay tangled up in his bed, and more kisses. Lots more.

Never more than a peck since that last time, but it became second nature. Finally, I had decided to push my insecurities aside, after three weeks of us not bringing attention to it, but leaning into it anyway, I decided to ask my husband on a date. A real one.

I wore a smile on my face all day, I was nervous that he'd say no, but it felt so right that I couldn't talk myself out of it once I had set my mind on it. It didn't help that he made my lunch for me that morning, so when I sat across from Jimin to eat it, I blushed red and smiled as I opened my lunch box.

“You okay?”

I nodded “yeah, I'm great, honestly. Min, I'm going to ask him out tonight”

“Ooooh” he wiggled his brows “so still kissing?”

“All the time” I gushed “when we wake up, when we have breakfast, when we're leaving, when we come home, when-”

“Mister Min?” I looked up as the principal and superintendent walked into the lounge, my back straightened, and the good mood I had been in fled from my body as I stared at their serious faces

“Mister Jones, Mister Caldwell” I stood “everything alright?”

“Can you excuse us, Mister Park?”

“Of course” Jimin looked up at me and then grabbed his stuff to leave. He gave me a look over their shoulders that said he was as confused as I was before he left the room completely

“We need to speak to you about Janie Hurst. Please sit”

My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach, I sat down and wanted nothing more than to call Yoongi. I needed him. Especially after hearing everything they had to say.

I walked in and sighed as I took my shoes off and dropped my bag by the door. Our puppies rushed to me, but I couldn't bring myself to smile or pet them. Instead, I walked slowly towards the kitchen “hey” he looked up and smiled. He wiped his hands and stepped closer to me, his eyebrows pinching together “Tae? What's wrong?” I couldn't help the sob that finally tore through my throat. I hadn't let myself cry, but as soon as I saw him, I finally felt safe enough to let it out.

He rushed to wrap his arms around me and hold me close as I sobbed into his shoulder, he held me tight and kissed my temple and the top of my head “Tae, please, whatever is going on, I'll fix it. I can fix it. Tell me what's going on?”

It took a while, but I finally calmed down enough so he could move us to the table, he sat me down and walked away while I wiped my face and stared at all of her artwork on our fridge. He came back and sat beside me as he placed a cup of hot tea in front of me and placed his hand on my knee “Are you okay?”

“Janie hasn't had the easiest life..” His eyes widened in fear “when she was born, she was immediately put up for adoption, and she's been passed around ever since. Her foster homes have been good to her, never any abuse or neglect, but..they never seem to work out long term. And she's never been officially adopted” My voice was hoarse, I took a sip of my tea and sighed as I cupped it in my hands, letting the warmth of it soothe me before I continued

“This one was going well, and they were going to adopt her. I'm not sure why, but it isn't happening. My bosses came to see me today, and so did Janie's social worker” I closed my eyes as they watered again “when she told Janie that she had to find new foster parents for her, apparently Janie broke down” my tears started falling and his hold on my knee tightened “She asked- she asked her social worker to ask me, if she could stay with me and my husband” he didn't visibly react so I continued and stared down at the cup in my hands
