The hospital loomed before Ashley as she stepped through its doors, a sense of anticipation coursing through her veins. This was it—the moment she had been waiting for. With determination in her step, she made her way to the front desk, ready to take the first step towards her future.

As Ashley approached, she noticed the front desk lady engrossed in a phone call with a patient. Patiently, she waited, tapping her fingers nervously against the countertop as she listened to the murmur of voices on the other end of the line. Finally, the front desk lady hung up the phone and turned her attention to Ashley.

"Sorry about that. How can I help you?" she asked, offering Ashley a warm smile.

Ashley returned the smile, her nerves beginning to settle as she spoke. "I was wondering if the position for a doctor's assistant is still open," she inquired, her voice steady despite the flutter of excitement in her chest.

The front desk lady's smile widened at Ashley's question. "Yes, it is," she confirmed. "You're in luck. Let me just call Doctor Cullen down for you."

With a nod of gratitude, Ashley took a seat in the waiting area, her heart pounding with anticipation. This was the moment she had been waiting for—the opportunity to prove herself in a field she was passionate about.

As she waited, Ashley couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had led her to this point. The decision to return to Forks, to pursue a career in medicine—it hadn't been an easy one. But as she sat in the hospital lobby, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the medical profession, she knew it was the right one.

As Ashley sat in the hospital lobby, her anticipation grew with each passing moment. She glanced at the clock, noting that it had been a little over two minutes since she had arrived. Just then, the door swung open, and in walked Doctor Cullen.

Instantly, Ashley's attention was drawn to the other women in the waiting room, who seemed to spring to life at the sight of the doctor. They adjusted their attire, smoothing out wrinkles and fixing their hair and makeup with a fervor that left Ashley feeling mildly disgusted. She couldn't understand the sudden flurry of activity, but she pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on the task at hand.

Doctor Cullen approached with a calm demeanor, his presence commanding attention as he made his way towards Ashley. Yet, as he drew nearer, Ashley couldn't help but notice something peculiar about him. There was an otherworldly quality to his aura, a sense of tranquility that seemed out of place in the bustling hospital environment.

It was then that Ashley realized the truth—Doctor Cullen was a vampire. The realization sent a shiver down her spine, but she quickly pushed aside any thoughts of fear or unease. After all, what harm could a vampire possibly pose in a hospital setting?

As Doctor Cullen reached the front desk, the receptionist called Ashley over, introducing her as the candidate they had discussed. Ashley stepped forward, extending her hand in greeting.

"Hello, I'm Ashley Swan," she said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty swirling within her.

Doctor Cullen returned the gesture, shaking Ashley's hand with a firm grip. "Carlisle Cullen," he introduced himself, his tone warm and welcoming.

As they exchanged pleasantries, Carlisle's gaze lingered on Ashley for a moment, his expression thoughtful. "Are you Chief Swan's daughter?" he asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

Ashley shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. "I'm actually his adoptive daughter," she clarified, feeling a pang of pride at the mention of her father.
