Chapter 16 | We made Pancakes for You

The soft chime of incoming emails filled the air as Ashley diligently typed away at her computer, her focus unwavering as she tackled the last of her tasks for the day. The gentle click-clack of the keyboard was the only sound in the office, save for the distant hum of the city beyond the window.

As the final message was sent, Ashley leaned back in her chair with a satisfied sigh, her gaze flickering toward the doorway just as Carlisle emerged from his last patient appointment of the day.

"Finished for the day?" Carlisle inquired, a warm smile gracing his features as he crossed the room to join Ashley at her desk.

Ashley nodded, returning his smile. "Just wrapping up the last of the emails," she replied, gesturing to the computer screen before her.

With a nod of understanding, Carlisle reached for a stack of papers on his own desk, swiftly organizing them before turning his attention back to Ashley. "Shall we tidy up the office before we head out?" he suggested, his tone inviting.

Ashley nodded in agreement, and together they set about straightening up the workspace, filing away papers and tidying up loose ends. Once satisfied that everything was in order, they made their way out of the office and toward the parking lot, where Carlisle's car awaited.

As Carlisle maneuvered through the city streets, Ashley reached over to adjust the radio, filling the car with the soft strains of a familiar tune. The drive passed quickly, and before long, they arrived at Carlisle's house, greeted by the eager figure of Alice, who bounded toward them with all the energy of a whirlwind.

"Welcome back!" Alice exclaimed, enveloping Ashley in a warm hug before releasing her with a bright smile. "Jasper and I tried making pancakes for you. I hope they taste good!"

Ashley returned Alice's hug with a grateful smile, touched by her thoughtfulness. "Thank you, Alice. That's really sweet of you," she replied sincerely. "I'm sure the pancakes will be delicious."

Carlisle chuckled softly, his gaze fond as he watched the interaction between Ashley and Alice. "Shall we go inside?" he suggested, gesturing toward the house.

"We shall," Ashley agreed, falling into step beside Carlisle as they followed Alice inside, the sound of laughter and chatter filling the air as they entered the warmth and comfort of home.

As Ashley and Carlisle stepped into the welcoming embrace of Carlisle's home, they were met with the joyful presence of Jasper, who wasted no time enveloping Ashley in a warm hug.

"Welcome back," Jasper greeted, his smile radiant with genuine pleasure at seeing Ashley again.

Ashley returned the embrace with a grin. "I heard you and Alice made delicious pancakes for me," she remarked, her stomach already rumbling at the thought of the homemade treat.

"We did make pancakes. I don't know if they're that good, but I sure do hope so," Jasper replied modestly, leading Ashley toward the kitchen.

"Well, there's only one way to find out. I'll have to eat them," Ashley declared with a playful wink, her anticipation growing with each step.

Jasper chuckled as he set a plate and cutlery before Ashley, placing a stack of pancakes and an assortment of toppings beside her. Carlisle joined them at the table, a smile playing on his lips as he watched Ashley dig in.

For the next 45 minutes, Ashley indulged in the fluffy delights, savoring each bite with relish. As she cleaned her plate, a satisfied smile graced her lips.

"The pancakes were delicious!" Ashley exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with contentment.

"We can make them more often!" Alice chimed in from the doorway, her excitement palpable as she joined the group in the kitchen.

With laughter and warmth filling the air, Ashley couldn't help but feel grateful for the simple joys of home and the cherished company of friends. As she basked in the glow of their companionship, she knew that moments like these were the ones to treasure forever.

I just really wanted Ashley to have a small little bonding moment with Jasper and Alice and I really thought this would suit them :)
