"I can't let this go, I fight with you in my sleep, the wound won't close, I keep on waiting for a sign. I regret you all the time."

"If you want to kill them, you'll have to kill me too!" Hermione cried, stepping swiftly in front of Harry and Jupiter. Her stance was defiant, shielding them from the man looming before them.

"No." Black snarled, his gaze piercing past her to something—or someone—behind them. "Only one will die tonight."

One. The word struck Jupiter like a lightning bolt, cold and final. Professor Lupin had been right. Black wasn't here for her; he wasn't here to hurt her. His eyes, blazing with a fierce purpose, were fixed only on Harry.

"Then it'll be you!" Harry shouted, stepping forward in a sudden burst of rage. In an instant, he lunged, wrapping his hands around Black's throat and forcing him to the ground. Harry straddled Black's chest, his wand pressed hard against Black's throat.

"Are you going to kill me, Harry?" Black let out a maniacal laugh, his wild blue eyes unflinching.

"Harry, get off him," Jupiter blurted out, surprising herself with the urgency in her voice. She didn't owe Sirius Black her concern—he deserved none of it—but a part of her recoiled at the thought of him dead.

"Jupiter, shut up," Harry muttered, his jaw set as he dug the tip of his wand deeper into Black's throat.

"Jupiter?" Black gasped, his gaze snapping to her, as if he hadn't noticed her until now. Harry was unmistakable with that infamous scar, but Jupiter had blended into the shadows. Now, though, Black's blue eyes met hers, a flicker of recognition dawning. She felt her heart twist painfully—she knew him too well, even if this was the first time she'd seen him in flesh and blood.

"Expelliarmus!"

The shout rang out from the doorway, and Harry's wand was yanked from his grip. Professor Lupin stood there, wand in hand, his expression unreadable as he lowered his arm. Harry scrambled off Black and retreated to the corner, his face flushed with frustration.

"Well, well, Sirius," Lupin said, his voice laced with something like disappointment as he stepped closer to Black, sprawled on the floor. "Finally, the flesh reflects the madness within."

"You'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you, Remus?" Black grinned, a hint of mockery in his tone. But Lupin's face softened, and he extended a hand to Black, pulling him up before embracing him tightly.

"He's here, Remus," Black choked, his voice cracking with relief. "I found him."

"I know." Lupin sighed, meeting his eyes with a heavy look.
