Mash Burnedead was clearly unaware of what reactions he's causing to y/n. He doesn't know how attraction works, and the effect he's causing to y/n may be the reason why she's getting attached to him so suddenly.
Y/n was definitely more interested in Mash, maybe having a crush on him. And she really spent much of her time with him, helping him with classes or just giving him some company when his friends weren't with him.

But there's also a problem here. Lemon Irvine is quite in love with Mash after he saved her from the mace. And there's no doubt that she's jealous of y/n. Lemon is a bit too obsessed with Mash Burnedead, a very unhealthy obsession for him.

Y/n treated Lemon like a friend. She didn't have anything against her. But Lemon being herself, it was obvious that she wasn't content with y/n taking Mash's attention. They both have mutual respect, but Lemon is still being possessive, and yes, she stalks Mash.
While Dot Barrett, on the other hand, was getting delusional when he ever saw Lemon. He was jealous of Mash's abilities to attract girls but still respected him as a friend of his, since Mash had already saved him a few times.

(I'll try not to put so many things about the anime/manga and add mostly normal situations or problems like in high schools. I still recommend watching the anime, since I'm putting a few scenarios of It in my fanfic)
