I swiped away the branches that were blocking my view as I ran, stupid Sasuke! He had to jump the wall didn’t he? Why couldn’t he stop and think for a moment?! It’s obvious that Gaara or whatever his name is is a different type of ninja! He’s not like us; he’ll kill someone without a care,
“So that’s what happened!” Naruto exclaimed as Sakura finished explaining, “So Sasuke got all impatient then.” I didn’t say anything as we continued to jump through the tree’s at top speed,
“Oh man, why’d you have to pull me into this anyway?” Shikamaru complained, “This who thing is such a drag.” And there’s the catchphrase I was waiting for,
“It can’t be helped ok? Its Kakashi sensei’s order!” Sakura exclaimed, I nodded but still didn’t say anything,
“This way!” Pakuun ordered as he veered off to the left abruptly, I quickly rebounded off a tree to catch up with him,
“How long til we catch up?” Naruto asked,
“I don’t know, a long time if they keep moving at this pace.”
“Come on!” Naruto groaned.
After a while of jumping I started getting a tad bored,
“Come on you guys! Hurry it up!” Pakuun’s voice brought me out of my day dreaming,
“What is it?” I asked,
“Did you see Sasuke?” Naruto asked,
“No, there are two squads behind us. That’s eight ninja. Wait,” Pakuun paused, “no, there’s one more, that makes nine ninja following us.” I gritted my teeth,
“Nani?!” Naruto exclaimed,
“Aw man, me on already! Give me a break here!” Shikamaru complained,
“It looks like they haven’t discovered our location… yet… We need to lose them.” I nodded,
“Agreed, now, how are we going to do that?” I asked, we all jumped down to the ground, I frowned when I noticed the footprints we were making in the soft dirt. Pakuun seemed to notice it too,
“Gah! What’s the deal?! Why’re we stopping?!” Naruto yelled,
“Zip it and follow me!” Pakuun demanded as he started retracing his steps, I nodded,
“Good idea Pakuun.” I looked over my shoulder and started doing the same,
“We’re going back over our footprints.” Pakuun explained, “If we pull this off, our footprints will seem to disappear.” Pakuun then quickly flipped backwards and landed on a branch. I quickly did the same and landed gracefully,
“Come on guys!” I cheered as everyone else did the same,
“Is this really going to do anything?” Naruto asked, “I mean, they’d have to be pretty lame ninja if this throws them off the trail.”
“It’ll help buy us some time. That’s all we need now.” Pakuun informed, I watched as Sakura and Shikamaru flipped back and landed next to me. Now we’re just waiting for Naruto,
“But if our pursuers get impatient and succumb to the thrill of the chase and lose sight of our tracks,” Pakuun continued, “I certainly won’t complain. Know what I mean?”
“Hurry up!” Sakura demanded,
“We don’t have all day you know.” Shikamaru finished,
“Don’t be mean!” I joked as I punched him on the arm, he shrugged and yawned as a response,
“Gah! I know quit bugging me!” Naruto exclaimed as he turned and jumped up to our branch. We then all quickly bounded away.
After a few minutes Pakuun sniffed,
“This is not good, be prepared for an ambush, heir defiantly back on our trail.” I growled,
“So soon!?” I exclaimed, Shikamaru just groaned,
“Great. Their probably all chunin or higher. We’ll be wiped out if they catch us.”
“Listen guys, we don’t have much choice, we’re going to have to ambush them.” Naruto told us all,
“An ambush?!” Sakura repeated, “That could work.”
“Mhm.” I agreed,
“It would give us an advantage. Even if there are twice as many of them as there are of us. If we can just catch them off guard…”
“No, it’s no use, I’m afraid that the ninja chasing us are Orochimaru’s henchmen. My guess is that their all jonin level.” Shikamaru groaned,
“Damn, I really thought that would work. But I guess it won’t.”
“Wait, hold on, why not?” I ignored the rest; I knew perfectly well why it wouldn’t work. They’ve probably had training for this; a bunch of genin would be a walk in the park. No doubt the training had involved our jonin, not weaklings like us,
“So one of us is going to stay behind and s low them down.” Shikamaru finished,
“A decoy…” I murmured,
“That’s right, if one of us can delay them then they wouldn’t be able to find the rest of us. Of course, the one who acts as a decoy will probably,” Shikamaru paused, “die.” We all stopped, I clenched my fists and turned to him,
“I’ll do it.” He shook his head,
“No. You’ll be the only one who truly has a chance of talking to Sasuke properly.” I growled,
“I’m not going to let the rest of you risk you’re lives! I’m going to do it!” I insisted, instead, Shikamaru ignored me,
“So, apart from Ayame… who’s gonna do it? We need the dog to follow Sasuke, Ayame to be able to talk to him, so that means…” I clenched and unclenched my fists,
“Well then, that means that I’m-“
“I’m the only one that can do it.” Shikamaru sighed, my eyes widened,
“W-What?! No! No! I’m not going to let you-“
“Ayame, it’s better than all of us getting wiped out right? Besides, I’m the only one who’s got a chance of pulling off this decoy act.” Shikamaru jumped behind us, “And of surviving this attack.” He continued, “After all, shadow possession jutsu was invented as a delay tactic. Anyway, I’ll catch up with you later.” None of us moved, “Go on! Get going!” He ordered coolly,
“We’re counting on you Shikamaru.” Naruto cheered, Shikamaru’s hand rose as if to say ‘go’, “Sakura.” She nodded,
“No! I’m not going to leave you! I don’t want you to die!” I exclaimed, Naruto quickly threw me over his shoulder and started jumping away,
“SHIKAMARU!” I screamed as his figure got smaller and smaller. I let my head drop, “Please don’t die.” I whispered to myself.
