From my exhaustion, I was able to sleep a full eight hours. It was needed and gave me a little more strength. Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped up in a small white towel and combed out my hair. Just as I moved to my closet my eyes burned and vision was taken from me.
Before me, was a man I had never seen before. "She'll get over it man." There was a pause, "Don't worry, Alpha Darrow won't be coming back alone, she's lucky to have a mate like him." Nodding his head, he rolled his eyes, "Alright. Peace." The man was a Beta and looked overly joyed as he hung up his phone and skipped deeper into the woods.
From the south, eight rogues were headed for him and I watched as they ripped him to shreds. I didn't have much time, the future was close. Blinking away the blood in my eyes, I sprinted out of the door and toward Josh's room. Attempting to force my way into his thoughts, he fought me and I couldn't break down his wall because he wasn't connected to me as a Luna. Giving up, I banged on his door, "Josh! Wake up and let me in!"
There was no answer. Taking a deep breath, I followed his sent. In my towel, I sprinted down the stairs and into one of the meeting rooms. Shoving open the door, I panted as my father, Josh and Alpha Alder all looked at me in shock.
"Josh! Kyle! Stop him! Eight rogues to his south - he won't make it."
Josh stood and moved to my side as he closed his eyes. I could feel the future changing as he opened a mind link with his Beta and warned him.
Relaxing, I wiped away the blood and blushed, "He's safe now."
My father cleared his throat, "You couldn't have mind linked that?"
Glaring at Josh I shook my head, "He wouldn't let me in."
Josh looked down at me with a lustful look, "That was you?"
Taking a deep breath, I nodded my head, "Next time let me in." Pulling the towel tight around myself, I turned back toward my room.
Father stopped me. "Since you're here you might as well know, Alpha Darrow has explained what happened with Alpha Rickards. We are sorry for the stress we've put on you."
"It's fine. I need to get dressed, we can talk at breakfast?"
Father nodded, "Alright."
Josh seemed so stiff as his jaw clenched, "May I walk you back to your room?"
My cheeks flushed, "No. I'll make it there in one piece, no need to worry."
He huffed and put his leather jacket over my shoulders. "Alright, just hurry and get dressed."
Rolling my eyes, I pulled his jacket tighter around me. Enjoying his scent, I smiled and skipped out of the meeting. Rushing to my room, I quickly pulled on my yoga pants, long sleeved, white shirt, and snow boots for the hike up the mountain today. Curling back up in Josh's leather jacket, I relaxed and headed for Beth's room.
Her and Heidi were already headed my way. Heidi laughed, "See! I told you she wouldn't forget."
Beth smiled as I braided my hair back, "Of course I didn't forget! Where's everyone else?"
Heidi smiled, "Tyler and Kate are in the gardens with Sam and Lizzy."
"Cris still coming?"
As the words slipped passed my lips Cris scooped me up from behind and threw me over his shoulder, "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Giggling, I wiggled out of his arms. It didn't feel right to let him touch me - my wolf didn't like it. "I hope it's as beautiful as it was last time."
His smile softened and he sniffed me, "Gross. You smell like him. Is that his?" He pointed to the jacket.
"Yes it is and I'm keeping it on."
He rolled his eyes but smiled as he scooped up my hand and led me to the garden where the others were.
Sam and Lizzy were quiet as they sat on a bench and whispered back and forth together. Kate and Tyler on the other hand were very loud and boisterous, they were already marked and mated. They were very entertaining to watch, I could see why Goddess had pared them together. Even in all their crazy, they calmed each other and brought out the good. It was nice to see Tyler and Sam so happy, I had known them since we were children and I know they both wanted to find their mates desperately.
As we started our hike the two couples fell behind with Heidi. Beth, Cris and I skipped along the path laughing and dancing. It was just like old times and I had really missed my friends. They had both been there for me through everything and I didn't ever want to say goodbye to them.
Beth nudged me, "Are you listening?"
"Sorry. Lost in thought. What were you saying?"
"So you and Darrow are getting pretty close?"
I shrugged, "Sorta. I don't really know him all that well. He is kinda a hard one to crack open."
Kate laughed as they caught up to us, "You're doing better than you think. I've never seen him anything but pissed off in all my life and you get him to kinda smile around people. Out of the years he was with my sister, she never got him to smile."
My heart ached at the thought of him with Maya but I knew Kate meant well. "Thanks." I sped up at an attempt to make the conversation stop.
Heidi seemed oblivious to my disgust with the topic as she moved to Kate and questioned further, "Wait Darrow and Maya were together, together?"
Kate nodded, "Yeah. For years they have been on and off. After her mate rejected her, Maya turned to Darrow. It was nauseating." She laughed and scooped up Tyler's hand.
"Maya got rejected?"
"Yeah. He didn't like that she didn't wait for him." Kate shrugged.
Heidi wasn't done though, she whispered to Kate, "Did her and Darrow...You know?"
"Have sex?"
Heidi nodded her head.
"Yeah. All the time. It was disgusting, they couldn't go a few hours without jumping each other. The way over here was the worst. Almost got kicked off the flight for them joining the mile high club."
My heart stopped at that. He said it had been a while since they were together. He had lied so easily to me. Everyone looked at me curiously as I came to a stop on the trail. I couldn't seem to find my breath or my legs.
Cris nudged me, "You okay?"
I could feel my frame begin to vibrate as he moved closer. "Stay away." I warned and everyone turned to watch me.
Kate's eyes widened and she looked to Heidi and whispered, "Did she hear us?"
Before I could hear another word, I was headed straight for the cover of the forest, "No one follow me!" I shouted as I ducked behind a tree, stripped off my clothes, and exploding into my wolf.
Running up the side of the mountain, I listened for anyone behind me but they had listened - there was no one. Enjoying the rush of my wolf in control, I forced the sad thoughts from my head and focused on the bitter wind in my fur. Dodging through the trees, I made my way to the top of the mountain. As the forest began to thin and trees disappeared, I knew I was almost to our stopping point but I didn't want to stop. Passing the lookout rocks we would normally hang out on, I ran faster up the cliffs until I couldn't go any farther.
As I took a seat to rest, I discovered a beautiful world. Clouds surrounded me and looked as if I were floating on them in the air. Spinning in a circle, I nestled into the snow and looked out over the world of clouds. Humming to myself, I slowly drifted off into a sad sleep.
