Arranged - LXC x JC fanfic

Fault

A deafening silence fell upon them after Wei Wuxian finished speaking. Fortunately, Jiang Cheng who was watching on the side noticed the heavy atmosphere, as well as finally remembered his role here, and spoke. 

"Don't be angry." Jiang Cheng said. Obviously, his words are for Wei Wuxian. 

Wei Wuxian looked at him. Jiang Cheng just sighed when he saw the other's red pupils which is a sign of demonic cultivation. Worried he (WWX) will have a qi deviation, Jiang Cheng looked at Lan Wangji, who actually didn't need to be reminded since Lan Wangji had been holding Wei Wuxian's hand tightly to comfort Wei Wuxian. 

Seeing this, Jiang Cheng sighed in relief. 

"Sect leader Jiang." Lan Xichen called. 

Jiang Cheng turned. 

"I deeply apologize." Lan Xichen said and bowed to him. 

Lan Qiren seeing this inwardly sighed. He is extremely disappointed on his elder nephew, who is the most promising descendant of the current generation of the Lan Clan. But since Lan Xichen became like this, he (LQR) as an elder has a fault especially since he is the one who raised Lan Xichen. 

"I also apologize - " Lan Qiren said and is about to bow to Jiang Cheng as an apology when Jiang Cheng stopped him. 

"Elder Lan, no need, no need!" Jiang Cheng finally reacted. He coldly sweated. He can't bear for Lan Qiren to bow to him! He (LQR) is of the older generation so how could Jiang Cheng have the face to show his parents in the underworld if he had an elder bow to him?! Not to mention that Lan Qiren is now (technically) a (family) elder of him (JC)?! 

Jiang Cheng inwardly sighed for the nth time. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji glanced at him. Since Jiang Wanyin didn't stop my elder brother from bowing to him (JC), then Jiang Wanyin is really angry toward him (LXC). Brother deserves it, though. He thought and sighed, feeling complicated in his heart about his elder brother, especially of what the other had done. 

"Zewu-jun. I now know that it was not you who proposed marriage to Jiang Cheng, so now I have only one question for you." Wei Wuxian said. 

Lan Xichen turned to him. "What is it?" He asked. 

"Since elder Lan has already planned to change the groom, why did you show up and become the groom again?" Wei Wuxian asked as he looked at Lan Xichen. 

Lan Xichen froze. Lan Qiren also froze as he also recalled this matter, which is the ultimate cause of why there is this situation now. Lan Qiren hates and is ashamed to admit it, but he has forgotten to ask Lan Xichen about this matter. That's right. Why did Lan Xichen show up and become the groom again? Lan Qiren thought. Especially since -

"You already have someone in your heart, who is still there, and that is even the reason why you wanted to back out from this marriage." Wei Wuxian continued. "Not to mention that you also agreed to elder Lan to change the groom - " he said, but Lan Xichen (surprisingly) cut him off. 

"I didn't." Lan Xichen said. 

Wei Wuxian was taken aback. "What did you say?" His brows knitted. 

But Lan Xichen didn't speak again as everyone clearly heard it. So, Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, and Jiang Cheng who is the other groom himself looked at Lan Qiren who was frozen in realization. 

"Uncle?" Lan Wangji called. 

"... he really didn't." Lan Qiren said as he pinched his brows. He really wanted to curse, to which he never thought about, not even when Wei Wuxian was his student. 

"What the - ?!" Wei Wuxian almost cursed, which what Lan Qiren wanted to do right now, but in the end he didn't since there is still an elder before them. "But still - !" He turned back to Lan Xichen. "You are against this marriage in the first place. Even if you were originally the groom and the replacement wasn't concluded so you reasonably showed up at the wedding, why did you still attend?!" He asked. 

In short, Lan Xichen doesn't want the wedding. Because he already has someone in his heart. Then, why still go through with it? Jiang Cheng is also puzzled so he looked at Lan Xichen, who happened to also look at him. But Lan Xichen only saw curiosity and inquiry in Jiang Cheng's eyes. Nothing else. 

... 'nothing else'...? Lan Xichen thought. "Because it is my fault, as well as my responsibility." He answered, which could be the perfect answer to all the problems in this arranged marriage.

Wei Wuxian's chest heaved up and down showing how angry he is and is on the verge of exploding. 

"Stop it!" Jiang Cheng shouted. "Wei Wuxian. I am the 'victim' here so don't get angry for me." He said. 

Wei Wuxian didn't speak. 

"Look. I also take this marriage as a responsibility, so we are even." Jiang Cheng said. 

Lan Qiren froze and so did Wei Wuxian. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji is too worried for Wei Wuxian that he doesn't care about anything or anyone now aside from Wei Wuxian. However...

"... pft. Haha." Wei Wuxian suddenly laughed. 

Lan Wangji was shocked as he stared at his beloved. He thought that Wei Wuxian was so angry that he could only laugh, but he is the most familiar of Wei Wuxian and knows that this laugh of his (WWX)... is a sincere laugh. But why would Wei Wuxian suddenly laugh? 

Lan Qiren is a smart person and also has seen many things for all these years so when he heard Wei Wuxian laughing and didn't detect any anger in it, but just a laughter from his heart... he had a bad feeling. He looked at Jiang Cheng, who is similarly confused like Lan Wangji because of Wei Wuxian's laugh. Lan Qiren, for the first time, understood what Wei Wuxian was thinking. And he should be proud of it as Wei Wuxian's (former) teacher but right now... he couldn't (be proud). 

Because Jiang Cheng... he doesn't take this marriage too seriously. This is what Wei Wuxian and Lan Qiren concluded, that is why Wei Wuxian laughed and Lan Qiren is now feeling complicated. Realizing this, Lan Qiren should be angry. But, like Lan Xichen, he has no right to (be angry) as they have wronged Jiang Cheng. Even he (LQR) also has a fault in this arranged marriage.

Meanwhile, Lan Xichen's eyebrow twitched when he heard what Jiang Cheng said. He also heard Wei Wuxian's laugh which Lan Xichen knows implies many things. But Lan Xichen cared more about Jiang Cheng's words. Suddenly, he (LXC) felt strange. He felt that something was wrong. But, he can't put a finger on it. At least not right now. Thinking that he can figure it out, he didn't ask his uncle, then, which he will greatly regret later... as it was really too late(r).
