"We probably shouldn't head back," I said, taking note of the rain coming down harder to the point where I couldn't see the street outside.
"We should be fine," Odessa said, putting things away in her desk. "A little rain hasn't hurt anyone."
"Yeah, I get it, but it is really comin' down, Dez," I said. "Not to mention there is some lightnin' I saw earlier."
"If we make a run for it we should be fine."
"Says the one who has a magnetic gauntlet," I shot back at her.
"I can just take it off."
"Ya have other metal stuff coverin' your body."
"It wouldn't be a big conductor like the giant ass magnet on my arm."
"Besides, it's not like we have a lot of things 'ere. We can just wait out the storm."
"Wait out the storm? And how long do ya think we're goin' to have to wait? Last time it stormed like this it lasted a good three days before it finally stopped."
"Good thing we have each other," I smiled at her.
She rolled her eyes playfully, "And what if I get tired of ya?"
"Nonsense," I chuckled.
"But seriously, Y/N, we don't live too far from where we are now. We can always make a run for it."
"I'd rather get electrocuted without your magnet than do that."
"What are ya so afraid of?"
"First of all, we could have flooding."
"Darlin', we live above other houses. If we need to worry about anythin', it should be a leaky ceiling."
"And this place, while it's not the best in terms of height, at least I know we don't have to worry about our house cavin' in on someone else's due to that foundation givin' out."
"Look, we can stop arguin' and head home now."
"Be my guest. You can get drenched."
"Good thing we have showers. That are somewhat functional," she said.
"And whose fault is that."
"It ain't my fault we live out 'ere. That our infrastructure isn't like the city."
"But you're the queen, aren't ya?"
She took in a deep breath, "You wouldn't last an hour in my shoes. So don't get on me for somethin' I've been tryin' to fix, but can't get to it because assholes need me to settle civil arguments. I am not like 'em when I have an argument with someone. Like how we are arguin' now."
"Finally! Somethin' logical in that head of yours."
"Aye!" she snarled at me. "I may not be as smart as other people, but I at least have common sense."
"But ya don't have the common sense to know it ain't safe to go out there!"
The rain started to pound harder against the metal roof. The wind rushed past the building, a howling sound coming from it. A flash of lightning soon followed and then a crack of thunder was not far behind. I yelped slightly, not expecting the storm to pick up.
"Ya want to go out in that now?" I asked, pointing to the window.
"We could have been home by now if we weren't havin' this argument."
"Ya know what, do whatever the fuck ya want! I won't risk gettin' swept away out there. But ya don't fuckin' have to worry because you're seven fucking feet tall!"
