A/N: Thank you GoofyAmarillio for requesting a part two! Hope you enjoy!
"Odessa?"
She turned and faced me, quickly wiping the tears from her eyes, "Y-Yeah?"
"Tell me what we were like."
"What?"
"What were we like? Before the accident?"
"Well," she turned away from me. "I can't really describe it, if I am goin' to be honest."
"Try," I said and sat beside her.
"It felt like we were livin' our best lives. Like they were magical. Our love knew no bounds and nothin' got in the way of us. If someone tried, the other would be there to get the message across."
"No one knew?"
"Oh they knew. It's just some people went and believed they could get with either one of us. Even though we were together."
"Together as in?"
"Bound in name."
"So we were married?"
"Yes," she said. "We were married. You were the best person I could ever ask to be with."
"How did we fall in love?"
"Both of us were from the Wastelands. Do ya remember that?"
"I do, slightly. It's still foggy."
"We knew each other then. We grew up there when we were kids. We took on the Wastelands better than the grown adults there and we promised ourselves that we were goin' to make it back home to Junkertown. No matter what it took, we were goin' home. And that was when ya fell in love with me. I saw the signs of how ya took towards me, the way ya looked and talked, but I also harbored the same feelings for ya, too."
"When did we get married?"
"After I came back from Overwatch, but then Overwatch needed me again and I thought it would be a good idea to bring you along. I didn't expect this to happen."
"Do you still love me, Odessa? Or the person I was before the accident?"
"I still love ya even now. The person you were before and the person ya are now. That'll never change."
"Even if I may not love you back?"
She bit her bottom lip, slowly nodding her head.
"I've gotta come to terms if ya don't love me like how ya used to. It's your life, Y/N. And this was kind of almost a reset button for the both of us. Maybe there's somethin' to learn 'ere."
"Being?"
"Both of us learnin' to love again."
"What were you holdin' when I came in 'ere?"
She handed me a photo.
"Our weddin' day. The ceremony was a blast but bein' with just you afterwards, best night of my life."
"Do you still have the rings?"
"Sure do," she reached over to her bedside table and opened up the drawer, picking up two rings before placing them in her palm.
I reached over and grabbed the one that I assumed was the one I wore. I admired it, every detail it held.
"Amazing work."
"You made 'em."
"I-I did."
"Yeah. You're a welder. Best damn one there is in Junkertown. Ya helped create my weapons such as my knife," she pulled it out from the sheath on her leg. "And ya helped so many people with so many things."
"I-It's startin' to come back to me. Little by little."
"That's all that matters is ya take your time healin'."
"Odessa."
"Yeah?"
"Will you still be 'ere for me? Even if I don't remember much at all."
"As long as I am breathin' and able to move," she reached over and grabbed my hand. "I will be 'ere for ya. No matter what."
"Thank you."
She smiled at me, "Of course."
Every once in a while I'd find myself hanging out with Odessa more and more. There was something about her personality that just drew me towards her. I don't think it was knowing the fact that we were once together. Those memories have yet to come back, but some were slowly returning, like I was finally walking out of the fog I was in. But when it came to Odessa, it was still pretty dense with the fog. There would be snippets here and there, such as the small things she did for me, but not the big things that my mind could differentiate from friendly and kind acts to acts of love and affection. I think her talking to me about our past was slowly helping here and there, but not much. That was until one day it all finally changed.
"Odessa, what is this?" I asked as I walked into her bunk to ask her something.
She seemed to be working on something as there were grease marks on her face, some sweat running down her forehead.
"Aye, sorry, I didn't hear ya come in."
"It's alright. Need help?"
"Yeah. Somethin' is wrong with my gun. I can't figure it out."
I stepped towards the work table to find her gun was pulled apart. The ammo was removed and the safety was put into place in case there was ammo stuck in the barrel.
"'ere," I stepped beside her, grabbing the light and pulling it towards me.
Everything came back. To the day we worked on this together, to the night in the desert after my grandparents died, to the day of the Reckoning and the day she left for Overwatch. Everything was back. What triggered it to return? Was it because I put myself in a familiar situation from the past? Or was my mind finally healed from the head injury I sustained? Whatever it was, I was glad, but it also reminded me of falling all over again for Odessa.
I stared straight down in the barrel to find it was pretty clear. I looked down at the trigger to see it had gotten stuck.
"There we are," I said, grabbing some oil and placing it on it, making sure it got in there thoroughly. I pulled back on the trigger, wiggling it around until it snapped back into position.
"Well fuck me," Odessa chuckled. "Shoulda looked there first. Thanks, Y/N."
"You're welcome, Dez," I said, turning to face her.
Her eyes widened slightly, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
"W-What did ya just call me?"
"Dez," I said. "Did I say somethin' wrong, love?"
Before I could even blink, her lips were firmly pressed against mine. I smiled, kissing her back as I reached up and placed my hand on her cheek. She pulled away and pressed her forehead against mine.
"Y-Ya remember everythin'?"
"Of course. How could I forget?"
"Y-Ya do remember your head injury?" Odessa pulled away.
"Yes, I remember that. I remember I forgot things about us. But for whatever reason, this brought back everything."
She smiled, some tears forming in her eyes.
"I'm just glad you were able to remember."
I smiled back, my hand still on her cheek. I caressed it softly before wiping away one of the many grease marks that was there.
"I would have done anything and everything to remember you. Even if it meant I had to fall over again."
"I'd do the same thing as well. To go through it all over again," she smiled.
