Chapter Seventy-Seven: Detective's Nocturne (The Case)!

[A Few Days Later]

Yuki sat reading a magazine out of Kogoro's way as he was watching TV. She glances over looking at the TV about a bank robbery that happened recently. Kogoro turns off the TV in annoyance before lighting a cigarette. Today, Ryo was at Dr. Agasa's. He didn't want to come over to the Detective Agency. So Yuki came alone.

"I tell you, all they've been airing since this morning is this news." Kogoro states.

"It can't be helped. It's only been less than a week since the incident occurred, and moreover, it seems that one banker was shot to death too." Ran replies.

"If I remember correctly, the guy was killed because he tried to be cool and went up against the robbers or something." Kogoro mutters.

"Ehhh." Yuki replies.

"I don't think he went against the robbers." Conan states.

"Hm?" Kogoro and Ran ask.

"According to one of the customers who was at the bank at the time, he raised his hands like this and said, 'Okay, cut it out already' and tried to calm the robbers down." Conan comments.

"But, it's all the same if he did what he did and got the robbers angry, then got shot to death." Kogoro mutters. The door begins to open behind Kogoro. Yuki and Ran notice.

"But they won't get away with their crime." Rei's voice states, "Most of the 200 million yen that they stole were fresh banknotes that'd just been received from the head office, so their serial numbers were all registered."

"Yeah, they got a bunch of money they can't use." Kogoro fires back, "So, it's just a matter of time until the robbers get caught. EH?! And what are you doing here?!"

"A few seconds ago." Yuki mutters.

"I bought sandwiches for your lunch, Mr. Mori, as you're taking care of me." Rei says, "It's my treat of course."

"Can we have some too?" Ran asks, clasping her hands together.

"Of course!" Rei exclaims.

"Thanks so much!" Ran exclaims, happily.

"Not at all. It's the least I can do for Detective Mori." Rei says as he glances over at Yuki with a grin. Yuki rolls her eyes.

'What a carefree character.' Shinichi's thoughts comment.

"Anyway, what kind of case will the client who's coming today be bringing?" Rei asks.

"How did you know about that?" Kogoro asks.

"Of course, I know. On days off, you're usually clenching a horse-racing newspaper in your hand and lazing about, teacher." Rei comments, "But today, you've shaved your stubble and neatly tied your necktie: the marks of someone who's waiting for a visit." Rei dares to mention Yoko's concert and Kogoro transforms into Kogoro the fanboy.

"And there it is." Yuki states, moving.

"This is..." Rei squeaks out in shock.

"He changed the time to meet with the client just so that he could watch this live." Ran adds.

"Go! Yoko!" Kogoro exclaims.

'The old man is so carefree too...' Shinichi's thoughts comment.
