The sun bore down upon the ground, hitting the backs of two avengers who were sitting by the water. There was a steady breeze rippling through the reeds, making a rushing sound.

Sam Wilson sighed, a small smile coming onto his face.
This was his favourite part of summer.

He lay down and closed his eyes, the sun beating down on his face. He wished it was like this all year, even despite it being 91 degrees (33 C).

A shadow passed over his face, blocking out the sun from his eyes. He opened them, and saw the face of Bucky Barnes above him. He immediately smiled, unable to stop himself.
"Hey," he said softly.
"You look relaxed," said Bucky.
Sam's smile widened, "I am relaxed."

A soft smile came onto Bucky's lips.
"Hope you don't mind if I join you, Wilson." He all but climbed on top of him and leaned over him, pressing a kiss to his cheek. Sam grinned.
"Course I don't mind," he said, gently taking hold of Bucky's shoulders and pulling him in for another kiss. His lips were dry, no doubt to the hot weather. Bucky laughed against his lips and pulled away, pressing a quick kiss to his neck before rolling off of him and coming to lie next to him.

They stayed like this for a long time, basking in the late afternoon sun. Sometimes they would talk, and other times they would just stay in each other's presence. When it became all too hot in the sun, they retreated to the shade cast by the house.

"How are you feeling?" Sam asked Bucky as they sat down in the hammock together. Bucky leant against him, closing his eyes.
"Calm."
Sam's heart swelled.
"You don't feel anxious at all?" He asked, and Bucky shook his head.
"Not right now," he said, wrapping an arm around Sam's waist. "But I will again, and I know that."

Sam gave a little sigh; anxiety wasn't something he could just fix for Bucky, or indeed, for himself. As much as he wished it, they couldn't live in blissful happiness all the time.

But that was okay, he told himself, as the two of them lay down in the hammock. That was just life. It's not always a walk in the park, and it really is a rollercoaster. Sometimes there's highs, sometimes there's lows, and Sam was just glad to be on a high with Bucky right now.

"I love you," whispered Bucky, as they lay, limbs tangled together.
Sam kissed his cheek, "I love you too."
