____The smell of flowers had become a permanent scent in their new home, lingering in every corner. Every day, when he picked her up from the store, a new floral fragrance would stick to her clothes and cling to her skin, making it harder for him to decide which unidentified scent he loved best. And right now, he was surrounded by them.
Colors, shades, shapes, and types of flowers and plants that he still couldn't find any different between them. Sunlight streamed through the windows and the delicate stained glass panels, casting colorful reflections on the floor and adding warmth to the shop, as if it ever needed it.
Without even realizing it, Aaron found a calming presence that made him feel like he was transported back to the moment Adam was introduced to the Garden of Eden, surrounded by unimaginably beautiful creatures. And Aaron could definitely stay there forever, especially when he had his Eve.
"Oh wow! Who is she?" Emily exclaimed dramatically, emerging from the back room of her shop after changing clothes to find Aaron texting on his cellphone.
"Oh honey, no! It's not what you think" he replied in the same theatrical tone, slipping his phone back into his pocket as he walked toward her. "It was Daphne. You weren't answering your phone, and she wanted to make sure we'd be home in time for Owen's birthday party." He explained, though she didn't necessarily need it. He approached her "You look beautiful, by the way" he complimented her and kissed her softly, his hands resting on her hips over the lovely fabric of her sundress. He pulled her closer until she laughed against his lips, arching her back in an attempt to pull away.
"Okay, okay" she managed to break free, smiling while still pressed against him. "Thank you and we won't be late, but I'm kind of hungry. Do you think we could grab something to eat?" She asked, playfully tugging at his polo shirt collar. "What's on your mind?"
"I never got to eat at the new coffee shop Claire recommended last time, and they're selling this really unique pastry." She raised her eyebrows, dragging the words out as they left her mouth. She remembered that the last time she visited the shop, she hadn't been able to order because she accidentally got hot coffee to be spilled all over her shirt.
"Emily, that's almost an hour's drive!" he exclaimed with a laugh.
"But we're already dressed" she argued, gesturing to her clean dark blue dress, which she'd chosen to avoid going back home. "And we have..." Emily glanced at his watch, "three hours to kill before the party" she finished with a smile.
Aaron had picked Emily up from her store at six; the party was starting at nine, which, in support of Emily's plan, was perfect. She was ready and could spend those hours with Aaron doing something fun.
"It'll be fun" she remarked, kissing his cheek and slipping out of his arms as she grabbed her bag. Aaron knew he couldn't argue. "Alright then, let's go" he said, offering her his hand as they walked out of the shop together.
