First day

It's been a day since Frederic moved them to the new location. This time, he took no measures to conceal where they were; they were in a cabin in the woods, so far that he didn't need a soundproof room to torture them— no one could hear them.

Unlike Aaron, Emily had seen the outside. Frederic gave her a tour, explaining that it would only be temporary until he found somewhere else. The cabin appeared to be seldom used; it was dusty, with sofas and couches covered in bedding that she was sure would tear with the slightest pull. There were three rooms in total: Frederic's bedroom, the room where he kept Aaron, and the one where he would toss him after he was done with him, finally allowing Emily to see him.

She remembered how he revealed the white sheets as he showed her around the place, she was coughing from the dust. He told her that she needed to earn her place in his bedroom, and until then, she would remain in the same room she was in now.

The chains around them were rusty, older than the drag marks on the floor between them.

She stared at his chest, counting his breaths. Fresh blood flowed freely down his bare chest, dripping, with another layer of blood covering the portion that had already dried. His chest moved slowly, rising and falling so delicately that Emily feared that if she blinked, she would miss the moment it ceased its movement. Yet his eyes remained powerful, full of energy and love, fixed on her as if any motion away from her would drain that energy and make him to fall apart.

She looked up at him with a smile, wiped her tears, and exhaled softly, ready to speak after gathering her thoughts. "Frederic kept telling you that you failed, and you said he also mentioned I'd leave you. That's why you're here, Aaron" she said bitterly, as she was finally connecting the dots

"He inflicts pain on those he blames for his failed marriage, and that's him" She shrugged, crying as he continued to look at her with a small smile, as if what she was saying didn't matter. "He sees himself in you. You're failing because you are losing me, and that's why he's going to kill you. He won't be satisfied until you're dead" she urged.

"He wants to remove any threat to his new chance with me. He told me it would be time very soon, and I think he meant it was your time to die" she choked out.

"Emily, they are close. I can feel it" he finally spoke, his voice soft and his words warm, as comforting as a hand cupping her cheek. "Rachel and Adam must have given them enough information to solve this case and find us." He tried to encourage her. Emily nodded, though she had no way of knowing if Frederic had truly kept his word and released them.

"Stay strong for me, please" he pleaded. Emily laughed, feeling it was her place to tell him that. She sniffed and leaned the side of her head against the wall. "I can't do this alone" she smiled.
