🎈CHAPTER 35🎈
•°Corinne's POV°•
"You guys good?" Mike questions from ahead of us.
"Yeah."
"Can you get through that?" Bill asks the Hanlon man, who was busy going through a very tight space. "It's the only way. This way. It's in here." Mike states.
"Through here. It's tight, but we can get through." Bill says to the rest of us, flashing his light to show us where to go, and so I crawled through the small space, finally getting to a place i didn't have to squeeze through, but what i was seeing infront of me was even more terrifying.
It was a huge opening, with giant black spikes coming out of the ground in the middle of the opening.
"This is where it hid." Mike points out.
It was all so surreal, even skeletons were laying around on the ground, black liquid dripping upwards, it only told me that this was really where he hid from the world, if he wasn't eating people.
"So, all this has been under Derry, like, forever?" Eddie asks, staring at the top, that looked like it was going on forever.
"Not forever. Just a few million years." Mike points out, he led us towards the space in the middle of the black hardened substance, he took off his backpack, taking out some sort of artifact, placing it on a rock.
"It can only be attacked in its true form. The ritual will show us that." Mike informs us.
"And what is it's true form?" Ben asks the question, all of us were wondering.
"I hope it's a puppy, like a Pomeranian or... I'll shut up." Richie says, realising everyone was giving him the look not to go there.
"It's light. A light that must be snuffed out by darkness." Mike says, throwing some oil into the artifact, throwing a match in afterwards to start a fire, I literally felt like we were doing something, cults usually would do, minus the worse shipping part.
"Your artifacts, place them in the fire. The past must burn with the present." Mike says, as we all took out our artifacts, I took out the postcard, gently tracing my fingers over it, glancing at Ben who was taking something out of his wallet.
"This is the boat that I built with Georgie." Bill was the first to spoke up, placing the paper boat into the fire, and slowly one after the other we did the same.
"It's my inhaler." Eddie says, taking one last pull of it.
"Come on, dude." Richie says in disbelief, as Eddie placed it in the fire as well.
"This is the pack of cigarettes I was able to steal, when Cori and I was helping you guys steal supplies from the clinic." Beverly states, letting the packet fall into the fire, I stared down at the card in my hand deciding to speak up next, "This is something i wished i held on too a little tighter, not to forget all the memories surrounding it." My eyes found Ben's just has I slipped it into the flames.
"This is a page from my yearbook, two people signed it, but this specific page also has a poem written on it. I probably should have forgotten it, but I couldn't, because I kept it in my wallet for 27 years." Ben says, which had me staring at him with wide eyes, I just couldn't believe he still held onto our memories and me, while I have completely forgotten everything.
"It's a token from Capital Theater." Richie states, throwing it in.
"You brought an actual token?" Eddie asks.
"Yeah, man. That's what we were supposed to do, asshole." Richie says.
"Do you have any idea how long that's gonna take to burn?" Eddie questions, which only seem to irritate Richie as he says, "Yeah, but so is your inhaler, dude."
"Guys, come on." Ben spoke up, trying to stop them from starting their bickering at such a critical time.
"All the toxic fumes and the plastic and shit, so..." Richie says, trailing off, not wanting to get in a disagreement at the moment. Mike held up a rock. "Look closely, Bev. You see it? That's where you hit Bowers." Mike says.
"The rock fight." Beverly says, chuckling.
"The day these bonds were forged." Mike states.
"That's not gonna burn, either." Eddie points out, Mike only ignored him, throwing the rock into the fire. "Oh wait." Eddie says, taking something out of his pocket, it was the shower cap of Stanley. "Couldn't forget about Stan, again." He says, putting it in the fire carefully, trying not to get burned.
"Okay. Grab hands." Mike instructs, and so we did, I took ahold of Ben and Beverly's hands, as the others also joined their hands.
"Come on."
"The ritual of Chud. It's a battle of wills. The first step was our reunion. The second was the gathering of tokens. This is the final step." Mike says, the fire went out right after that.
"What the..."
Above us, something started happening, as the dark cave started getting a little light, right above us it looked like Pennywise mouth, which is full of teeth, only for the deadlights to appear.
"Fuck is that?" Bill asks.
"Don't look at them!" Mike yells, but I already had my eyes closed, knowing very well what those things are capable off, even if they could even do more damage.
"Are those the Deadlights?" Eddie asks, terrified.
"Don't look at it!" Mike yells once again.
"Okay."
Mike had us repeat the same damn sentence over and over again, "Turn light into dark." As he was chanting in some sort of native language over all our shouting. I could feel the heat of the deadlights getting closer to us, as a gust of wind was blowing against me, but we kept on chanting, the wind getting stronger.
Once I didn't feel any sort of force pushing against me, or the heat of the Deadlights, I opened my eyes, to see Mike putting the lid on the artifact, closing it. "Turn light into dark! Turn light into dark! Is it working? Did we do it?" Eddie asks, but for some reason this felt way too easy, but of course the box had to start making noises, Mike was grunting trying to keep the artifact close, but something red kept trying to push itself out of the box.
"What is this? Is this part of it?" Beverly asks.
"Mike, is this supposed to be happening?" Richie questions.
"What? No, no, no." Eddie nervously says.
"Keep chanting!" Mike yells, so we kept on chanting , but it didn't look like it was working, Mike suddenly got thrown back, by the red thing, which was a balloon, growing bigger and bigger from the artifact.
"Hey! Hey!"
We quickly got out between the spikes, as the balloon got bigger, only to be popped, by one of those pointy things, we got thrown back on the ground by the force of the balloon bursting open, and for a few seconds I couldn't hear anything, my ears kept on ringing. It took a few minutes before it went away, and I was able to hear again.
"Cori! Cori!"
Ben came to me in a rush, helping me to my feet, he immediately started looking for any injuries. "Ben, I'm okay." I say in reassurance.
"Wait, where's Mike?" Eddie questions, we looked around calling out to the man.
"Mike!"
"Mike!"
"I'm here!" Mike says, coming towards us.
"Hey guys. Did we do it? Did we do it? Yeah? Did we do it?" Eddie questions, but for some reason I knew this wasn't over, a gut feeling telling me the worse is yet to come.
