"No, actually you were right. I am underestimating my position and maybe growing complacent and content. Although what happened is something I didn't wish for, it was a part of their choice which I have no control over. I learned a valuable lesson today, and what you said earlier was a great reminder."
Uh...
Jennie opened and closed her mouth, eyes stuck to Lisa's gaze. "Are we... going to argue again?" she blurted out under her breath.
"Haha. I don't like arguing with you." Lisa frowned, sliding his arm over the backrest while his other hand reached for her hand. "Let's not fight, Jennie. I'm sorry."
"I'm... sorry too." Her eyes softened as she felt the crippling weight in her heart lift off. She slid closer to him, slipping her arms between his torso and arms to embrace him. "Gosh. Your silent treatment is scary."
A short chuckle slipped past his lips, relaxing his body against the couch so she could hug him comfortably.
"I am even more scared, wondering what I would do if you leave your seat." Lisa planted his hand on top of her head, stroking her smooth and silky hair. "Let's not fight over such things again."
"Yeah, let's not do that. It's not good for my heart."
Lisa smiled, but then he glanced down at him. "By the way, did you mean what you said?"
"Huh?" Jennie looked up at him, blinking. "I said a lot of things. Which one?"
"That part where you said you can do worse."
Shit.
Jennie blinked and blinked, keeping an innocent front as if she didn't remember her own words. But deep in her soul, she remembered every single word she had spewed! Damn it! She was too emotional and honest, not thinking she was almost throwing herself under the bus!
"Hmm?" Lisa cocked his head to the side, watching her smile sweetly at him.
"I do." The corner of her lips stretched until her eyes were squinting, not denying it even though she was tempted to do so. "I'm naturally a good and kind person, but if someone hurt you and Jevy, I will end them without blinking!"
His brows creased as they slowly rose. "Jennie, good people don't tell others they are good people."
"Hehe. I know." Jennie fluttered her eyelashes coquettishly. "Darling, do you think I'm a bad person?"
"No?"
"What if I am?"
Lisa pondered for a second, only to ask. "How bad?"
"Like a psycho-level kind of bad."
"I see..."
"So?" Curiosity glowed in her eyes, wondering what sort of answer she would receive. However, just as his lips parted, she suddenly covered it with both her hands.
"Hmm?" Lisa blinked, confused.
"Hehe. Nevermind." Jennie chuckled awkwardly. "Don't answer."
Lisa didn't brush her hand away from his lips, tilting his head to the side.
"I'm scared your answer will just hurt me." She forced a smile, removing her hands from his lips. "So, never mind. Don't answer. I don't think I'm ready to hear whatever it was."
"If you're what you said you were; a psycho-level kind of bad. Then I need to hire a ton of lawyers." Lisa blinked, watching her raise her head again. He ran his tongue across his inner cheek, mentally putting himself in such a position. "I'll probably become corrupt as well, involving myself in bribery and abuse of power."
Lisa took a momentary pause, flashing her a quick smile. "I can't let my wife rot behind bars, can I?"
"I..." her voice wouldn't come out of her throat until she huffed. "... am alarmed."
"Haha."
Jennie's lips parted while watching him chuckle charmingly. Lisa poked the apex of her nose lightly, grinning from ear to ear. "My point here is, if you can't be good, then I'll be bad. A psycho-level kind of bad."
Jennie pursed her lips into a thin line, staring at him with slight intensity. Part of her was moved by his answer, but the other part kept her from being open and honest.
Lisa would go down to hell with her if that was the only way to be with her.
'I wouldn't mind dragging you to this hellhole,' she thought, raising her hand to cup his lean cheek. 'But because I love you, I can't be that selfish, can I?'
Lisa creased his brows at the slight change of her expression, only to raise his brows when she moved up to kiss him on the lips. It was a short yet passionate peck, watching her draw her head back, smiling.
"Thank you," she expressed with a warm smile.
"For?"
"Everything." Her lips stretched even broader, making her eyes sparkle under the calm light from the modern chandelier. "But there's no need to change, Lisa. I like the way you are." — she wouldn't want to bring out the worst in him.
'At least, Jevy has one decent parent,' the thought crossed her mind, keeping it to herself.
"I don't remember doing anything worthy of such an increase in affection." Lisa brushed her cheek with the back of his fingers. His eyes scanned her beautiful face and then her affectionate eyes. "Say, are you hiding something from me?"
"Huh?"
"Just now, I felt like you were holding back from saying something," he pointed out, smacking his lips mildly. "I won't force you to tell me, Jennie. But once you are ready, I would love to hear all the things that are inside your mind."
Lisa tapped her forehead mildly, smiling. "I don't like it when it seems you're going to say something, but then change your mind the moment you open your mouth."
"You notice those things?"
"I'm a businessman." He shrugged. "Not because I'm not saying anything, doesn't mean I don't notice."
"Right."
"Do you promise?" Lisa tilted his head to the side. "That you will tell me when you're ready?"
Jennie bit her inner lip, unable to look away from him. For some reason, she wasn't as surprised because a part of her was already aware of Lisa's keen nature. It would be even more surprising if he didn't notice anything until now.
"Sure." Jennie smiled and nodded. "Next time. I will... hopefully, I get the courage."
"Is it that hard?"
"Well..." her lips stretched, chuckling. "You might get scared, that's all."
All the things she kept until now weren't easy truths and weren't believable. For instance, who would believe her if she said she wasn't Jennie Kim, but Jane Cruel who had died five years ago? Even she wouldn't believe herself.
"Give me some time, Lisa," she continued. "I'll tell you everything in the future... once I am ready."
"No rush." Lisa smiled back, nodding at her reassuringly. "Good thing I am a patient person."
"And good thing I'm lucky to marry such a patient person."
