Lisa and Jennie stayed quiet for minutes. Neither of them wanted the building silence in the car, but neither of them didn't know how to break it. Lisa just drove carefully, glancing at the side mirrors and rear mirrors from time to time. Their guards were still following them.
Meanwhile, Jennie would habitually glance at him.
'Did I make a mistake?' she wondered to herself, sighing for the umpteenth time. 'I don't like this silence. Can't tell if it's awkward, but for sure, it makes me regretful. I feel like I did something terrible.'
Although Lisa and Jennie had their fair share of dull moments, she disliked this sort of silence. It was suffocating, making her anxiety spike.
She glanced at him once again. 'I wonder what's on his mind?' Jennie peeled her eyes from him and sighed once more.
"Are we okay?" she asked when another minute had gone by in silence. "Are you mad?"
"No."
"Then why are you so silent?"
"Because... I'm driving."
Jennie blinked and blinked, eyes on his side profile. "Are you sure?"
"Mhm."
She studied his side profile for a moment, heaving a sigh of relief as it seemed he meant it. One thing she admired about him was that he was capable of putting things aside instead of getting affected by it. Perhaps that was thanks to the position he grew up in and where he currently stood.
"If you say so," she said with a shrug. "I'll take that as us being okay."
"Mhm. Though I will wait," he replied, keeping his attention on the highway. "Until the day you are ready, I'll wait. Don't forget I am waiting."
"I know." She pressed her lips and smiled. "Thanks, Lisa."
This time, his eyes slide to the corner. "Anything for you."
Moments like this made Jennie even more grateful to him. It would be very hard and pressuring if he wasn't as understanding. Even so, she knew she had to reveal the truth one day. Not today, but for sure, even though she knew there wasn't a perfect time, nor was she certain a day would come when she was ready, she knew she still had to.
Delaying it just gave her more time to process her thoughts.
As they clarified the air between them, Jennie realized it wasn't as suffocating as she thought. Well, she thought he was angry.
"How long till we reach the old residence?" she asked out of plain curiosity, knowing they had been driving for almost an hour now.
"Thirty minutes?"
"Oh, it's not that far."
"We're going to stay overnight, so it's fine."
"But being late is not fine," she humored. "Grandma will be angry."
"Don't worry. They will keep her occupied. It's not like we're the only family who will attend."
"Yes, but it's still nice to give good impressions to your relatives."
"There's no need for that."
"Hmm?"
"Our relatives weren't really great, yet they have unrealistic expectations from people. It's a waste of time to try to impress them when their greediness is insatiable," he remarked without a second hesitation, earning her complete attention. "Just don't mind them that much. We're going because of Grandma, not because of them."
"Lisa, I thought you were close with your relatives," she muttered, recalling the original Jennie's memories with them.
"I tolerate them."
"Oh..." her lips formed an o-shape, rocking her head in understanding. 'Surely, Jennie's memories aren't that reliable in things like this. But then again, Lisa really looks like he gets along well with everyone.'
Another wave of silence befell them as Lisa focused on the road while Jennie sat dainty like a princess. To kill time, she pulled down the mirror to check herself. She put on just light makeup since she wanted to look simple but elegant. Her face already had beautiful features, after all.
"My lips are a little pale, don't you think?" she mumbled, biting her lips before puckering them.
Lisa simply cast her a glance, seeing her go through her small purse before she took out a lipstick. Jennie puckered her lips as she applied a light shade of pink tint to her lips. The side of his lips curled up a bit, setting his attention back on the road.
"I really like this lipstick," she said randomly, smacking her lips. "It really has a sweet flavor. I wonder if they will ever make lipstick with a bun flavor."
Jennie chuckled as she faced her husband, cupping her cheek while fluttering her eyelashes coquettishly. "What do you say?" she inquired, puckering her lips playfully.
Lisa looked at her quickly before setting his eyes back on the road. However, he slowed down before pulling over to the side. Once their vehicle stopped, her brows rose in confusion. However, before she knew it, Lisa already sprawled his arm toward her.
His hand snaked around her nape, turning her head to face him squarely. The second her eyes landed on him, all she saw was Lisa stretching his upper body toward her. His seat belt extended as he moved over to the passenger seat, sealing her lips in a French kiss.
"..." Her lips slightly parted as his lips dominated hers.
"The flavor is a little strange," he said after planting a quick peck on her lips before drawing his head back. "It's not cherry, for sure."
Jennie blinked at him, speechless. "What the... did you pull over just to check my lipstick's flavor?"
"No, I pulled over because I think you're too pretty and I want to kiss you." He smiled, moving his face closer to kiss her again. "Also, because I want to tell you, there's nothing you will do or had done that will make me unloved you."
Sincerity flickered across his eyes, finally giving his thoughts about her previous remarks on the reason she was terrified to give him the full truth.
"I said, I will wait, but at the same time, I want you to know there's nothing to be afraid of." He nodded at her reassuringly, closing his eyes as he rested his forehead against hers. "I love you and I meant that with every meaning of that word."
A subtle smile turned up on her face as she closed her eyes, humming softly. She cupped his face, tilting her head, and this time, initiating a more passionate kiss.
