The day went by just like any other normal day for the family of three. When Lisa and Jevin arrived after purchasing some ingredients — Jennie asked them to get her — Jevin and Lisa helped Jennie in making dinner. They ate, watched some films, and then went to the nearest mall to buy some school supplies and knitting materials.
It was peaceful and quite productive, but it only emphasized Bear's previous remarks.
Jennie's life now was compelling her to grow complacent. Thus, as soon as they arrived home, she hit the home gym to warm up her rusting bones. This time, however, Lisa joined her.
She had been in her body for months, but had never seen the man work out until now.
'What a sight to behold.' Jennie licked her lips after chugging a mouthful of water, sitting on the corner as she rested after a straight-hour workout. 'Don't tell me he's thinking about that girl again?'
The admiration in her eyes was immediately replaced with frustration, watching Lisa run on the treadmill as if he was deep in his thoughts.
'I don't like it.' Jennie mentally clicked her tongue, getting even more annoyed at herself for being so bothered. She didn't like the unnecessary thoughts that were filling her mind just because she had nothing to think about now.
Oh, the good old scheming days.
Who would have thought she would eventually miss it?
"You seemed a little busy."
Jennie snapped her eyes up, only to see Lisa slowing down on the treadmill until it stopped. He got off of it, picked up the towel draped on the handle, and marched toward her. Lisa slumped down beside her, a little out of breath from a straight cardio workout.
"Do I look busy while sitting down?" she returned, head turned to him. "I should be the one asking, Lisa. You seemed you got a lot of things in your mind."
"I do." Lisa smacked his lips.
"About the dream?"
"Well, a bit of that." Lisa shrugged as he opened this bottle of water. "But I was thinking more about when I should stop running."
"Huh?"
"Don't you feel that when you work out? You just want to finish the routine."
"Ah..." Jennie rocked her head, assessing his sweaty skin as he drank a mouthful of water. Her eyes went down to his neck, watching his Adam's apple move as he gulp, making her gulp as well.
"Do you always work out?" she asked as a distraction, moving her gaze to his side profile. "I never see you, though."
"I stopped a few months back, but I've been doing some sports in between or during meeting some of my business affiliates."
"Oh..."
Lisa cast her a side eye before placing the bottle on his side. He reclined a little, resting his hands on either side of him.
"You've been acting strange since your discussion with Mr. Cruel," he pointed out. "Or am I simply overthinking?"
"Hmm?" Jennie blinked, as she also had the same query. "Am I? I thought you were a bit strange today."
"How so?"
"Well, you keep looking at me strangely, as if you're studying me. It somehow makes me a bit self-conscious as if I did something terrible."
The side of his mouth stretched as a quick chuckle came out. "Did I make you feel like that?"
"Yes."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." His grin remained, taking a deep breath as he peeled his eyes from her. "I just couldn't help but wonder some things today."
"Like?"
"Like..." Lisa cocked his head back, eyes falling back to her as he dawdled his next words. "How did you know Jevy was coming into the kitchen earlier today?"
Deep lines appeared between her brows, reviewing their menial day. "Ah, that?"
"Yes."
"Well, he was making noises." Jennie shrugged, giving him the truth, since there was no need to lie about it. "Didn't you hear him?"
"No."
"Well, maybe because you were distracted by me."
A helpless smile replaced the slight intrigue on his face. "Maybe. Who knows?"
Lisa didn't want to question her or himself anymore. Therefore, he simply accepted her lame conclusion. It was possible. After all, Jennie usually stayed in. It would only make sense that her senses were slightly heightened in her territory. He shouldn't give too much thought to her actions and behavior just because of a stupid dream.
Seeing that Lisa was smiling as if he found some enlightenment after an intense workout, Jennie couldn't help but sigh in relief. This was her husband, and for sure, he already came to terms with the intrusive thoughts that had invaded his mind.
"Anyway, Jevy's school will start soon," she broached after a while, watching him look back at her once again. "I was thinking of doing some knitting and cross-stitching as a hobby."
"Ohh..." Lisa simply rocked his head as it was already given he would support anything she would do. "Whatever makes you happy, I'm in full support."
An understanding smile dominated his face, raising his brows upon noticing how short the smile he received.
"Did I do something wrong?" he asked, cocking his head to the side. "You seem a little upset."
"I'm not." Jennie sighed. "It's just that... once Jevy goes to school, I'll be alone in here. Even Lucas had been busy, so..."
Jennie pouted as she fidgeted with her fingers. "I'm bored."
Lisa stayed quiet as he thought of how his wife had been these past several months. Now that he thought about it, his wife seemed to have too much time on her hands. After she finished her scenes in the project she worked on, she had been quite a little down.
It wasn't obvious because of how she would usually be with them, but she was definitely more energetic during weekends.
"Do you..." he trailed off, a bit hesitant to ask the question. "... want to come with me?"
"Hmm?" her eyes blinked a couple of times. "Where?"
"Target shooting," he said. "I have to meet a few friends in a few days. I mean, you can come if you want to. Have you ever tried that before?"
"Target shooting?" she repeated, and he nodded. "Nope."
Yet, her eyes lit up with excitement at the thought.
She could use guns legally?! Well, why not?! She had been rusting, but in all honesty, this was simply her way to avoid the itch in her hand to test her marksmanship.
Seeing the excitement on her face, a relieved smile appeared on Lisa's. "Then, it's set?"
"Yes!" Jennie giggled, grinning. "I never tried that ever — EVER in my life."
"Haha. Then count this as the first, but definitely not the last."
Definitely not the first and definitely not the last.
