Eclipse Towers, a majestic 40-story skyscraper, dominated the downtown Toronto skyline.
The tower is where me and my sisters apartment is in.
I don't bother to hide the awe written on my face as me and Tejiri get out of the taxi.I follow Tejiri slowly with my luggage as she leads the way.
As I step into the Eclipse Towers, I'm immediately enveloped in luxury. The sleek glass doors slide open, revealing a spacious lobby with polished marble floors that seem to stretch on forever. The contemporary art installations on the walls catch my eye, adding a touch of sophistication to the modern design. I nod at the concierge, who greets me with a warm smile, and make my way to the elevators with my sister.
The high-speed elevator whisks us up to the 25th floor, offering breathtaking views of the Toronto skyline through its floor-to-ceiling glass walls. I feel a thrill of excitement as I gaze out at the glittering city lights.
"Is this where you stayed?" I ask Tejiri who finally looks up from her phone.
She shrugs." yeah but I stayed on the tenth floor"
The elevator doors open, and we step into a carpeted hallway with warm, golden lighting. The scent of freshly baked cookies wafts from the nearby residents' lounge, enticing me to explore. I walk down the hall following my sister who seems to know her way, passing by neatly labeled apartment doors, until we reach our's 2503.
Tejiri slides the key card into the lock and push open the door. Stepping inside, I'm greeted by the sight of our luxurious apartment. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in a flood of natural light, illuminating the hardwood floors and plush carpets.
As i step further into the apartment, I admire the sleek, modern interior design. The living room's neutral color palette - soft grays, creamy whites, and taupe - creates a calming atmosphere. Plush sectional sofas in charcoal gray invite relaxation, while accent pillows in rich berry hues add a pop of color. The floor-to-ceiling windows showcase Toronto's skyline, making the room feel airy and expansive.
My gaze wanders to the gourmet kitchen, where quartz countertops and high-gloss cabinetry shimmer under LED lighting. Stainless steel appliances and a large center island perfect for food prep make cooking a joy. A small dining area with a glass-topped table and comfortable seating for four completes the open-concept space.
"That's your room, you should go unpack" my sister speaks up in the silence as she walks down the hallway to another room.
Moving down the hallway, I enter my bedroom. Soft, golden lighting welcomes me, and the plush area rug in creamy white feels heavenly underfoot. My queen-sized bed, dressed in crisp linens and a light gray duvet, beckons me to unwind. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a stunning view of the city, which I will never tire of.
A comfortable reading nook with a sleek, chrome-framed chair and floor lamp invites me to curl up with a good book. My spacious walk-in closet, organized with custom shelving and drawers.
The bathroom is also as luxurious as the entire apartment.
I sit slowly on the bed as I still look around my room in awe.
I bring out my phone before dialing my mother's number because I know my Dad will be very busy. She picks up on the first ring.
Her tired voice speaks up "hello my dear how was your flight?"
I sigh as I let myself sink slowly into my new bed " it was okay mummy and the house is very beautiful"
My eyes start to droop slowly but I still talk to my mother as she asks me questions about the house and the flight.
"Ehen my dear please listen to your sister, do not let any of those white girls pressure you into anything" I roll my eyes.
" Yes mummy"
"Anyway Mr awolowo's son asked about you at the wedding, he even says he'll be in Canada very soon for business"
I stifle a groan as I just give an absentminded hum as a response.
My mother always wanted me and Richard to get engaged. He is the son of one of my mother's friend.
He owns a hotel that was passed down to him after his father died.I have only met him a handful of times and he has been really nice and he did tell me he wanted to settle down.
Which is strange cause he's only twenty two, I'm only nineteen.
I didn't really give him a definite answer.
I know for a fact that I am attracted to him but not enough to want anything serious. After my lengthy call with my mother, I finally unpack and leave my room.
Tejiri walks out of her room but this time she's dressed up.
Her braids are down which stops at her waist.
She has a short black plaited skirt and a purple crop top."Are you going somewhere?"
She looks at me like she just realized that someone lives with her now.
"I'm going out to see my friends, do you want to come with me?"
I shake my head.
I'm not a very social person and besides I'm an introvert. I prefer to stay in this beautiful place all day.She shrugs and begins sauntering to the door.
"And by the way...."
Tejiri turns to me with raised brows " you look beautiful"She smiles " thanks Kobi"
The silence is deafening as she closes the door behind her.I wanted to go to the kitchen to make something for myself since my sister had already bought foodstuffs before she came back to Nigeria to get me but I decide not to and just go to sleep.
I plop onto my bed as I slowly drift to sleep.
I hear my phone ring but I've already gone in too deep.
