I stepped into my World Literature class, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Professor Thompson, with her bright smile and infectious energy, immediately put me at ease. Her mid-twenties seemed to be filled with an unwavering passion for literature.
Alex was right after all.
As I listen to miss Thompson make a joke that makes everyone laugh a gentle voice speaks up from my side "Hey, do you have an extra pen?" A dark-skinned girl with soft features and a round face beamed at me.
"Of course," I replied, handing over my spare pen.
"Thank you so much, my name is Samantha by the way" she whispers to me.
" I'm Kobiruo but you can call me Kobi" I say back to her.
We chatted briefly, exchanging introductions, and before I knew it, the class was over. As we walked out together, Samantha says "what made you choose crawford university?"
I shrug "to be honest I don't really know, I just chose the next best thing, should I have a reason though?"
"oh no, it's actually my first time hearing your accent which tells me you aren't from here" she says as we both sign out.
" Yeah that's cause I'm from Nigeria, I wouldn't really say I have an accent"
I've never really thought that I had an accent."Of course you do, I can't really explain it though but it sounds nice"
I smile at her not knowing if I should say thank you or just change the topic but I don't do any of that.
Samantha says she's meeting her friends at a nearby nearby bar called sunset and sound.
"You've never heard of it?" She looks sincerely surprised.
I shake my head "it's a really cool bar, it's more like a student hang out. It turns into a club at night"
" Have you gone to the club once?" I ask
And she nods her head as we walk on the sidewalk " ofcourse it's really good as a nightlife than a bar if I'm being honest"We both walk in silence.
I'm about to tell her that I want to go home before she suggests that I meet her friends.I immediately agree, eager to expand my social circle.
As I step through my doors, I notice the industrial-chic decor – exposed brick walls, polished wood accents, and sleek metal fixtures. It's modern yet rustic, cozy yet electric. The plush couches and communal tables invite you to linger over drinks and good company.
natural light pours in through the windows, casting a warm glow over study groups, friends laughing over pints, and professors grabbing a quick bite. You might catch a glimpse of a laptop or two (or ten).
"Behind the bar, you'll find an impressive selection of craft beers, wines, and signature cocktails which are so good" Samantha says as we start to walk in.
This is more than just a bar – It's a community. It's more like a space where students can unwind, connect, and create unforgettable memories.
Samantha takes me to a table that has three boys laughing and talking.
One boy recognizes me though.Ethan.
"Kobiruo what are you doing here?" He slowly stands up with a smile.
"you guys know each other ?" Samantha asks as Ethan gives me a hug that lingers a little too long.
"Yeah we met at a cafe a week ago" I explain as I seat next to Samantha.
Samantha introduces me to Ryan and Max who seem to be really nice guys.
