DISCLAIMER: I Do Not Own Teen Wolf

They were stuck.

"Well done to the last, Scott," Gerard had said. "Like the concerned friend you are, you brought Jackson to Derek to save him. You just didn't realise that you were also bringing Derek to me."

Then Allison had fired an arrow toward Scott, he dodged and Isaac was hit instead. Ellie was immediately on her guard, mind blocking the fact that the attacker was her cousin so she could take a defensive position.

With now two of the three werewolves available out of commission, it was left to Scott, Ellie and Chris to fight back – except it really wasn't that easy. The kanima had launched into action as soon as Gerard stepped back, and it was obviously much more powerful. It slapped the gun out of Chris' hand as Ellie was too busy releasing arrows in Allison's direction.

Derek managed to return as soon as Chris was tossed to the side. Things began to look up slightly, what with Isaac and Scott matching the alpha with their morphed faces in order to join the fight. That is, until Derek was paralysed.

Allison seemed to have run out of ammunition, instead slicing Isaac up with a couple of daggers to keep him on the ground. Ellie, furious that the other girl had managed to slip passed her, jumped to slam a hand on the back of her head while she wasn't paying attention. The taller brunette lost her footing, crumpling to the ground and cracking her head against the floor.

Sighing, Ellie relaxed her shoulders. Her cousin was unconscious, she wasn't a threat anymore. The only was...

Wait.

"Where's the-" she started to say, but then something smooth and hard wrapped itself around her neck and she froze. She gasped for breath, knowing the kanima was right behind her.

"Now, now," Gerard said as he stepped back into the light. His face was smug, like he'd known he could beat her all along, his bald head shining in the low light. "That's enough of that."

"What are you doing?!" Ellie forced out, voice sounding strangled (because, you know, she was being strangled).

Her grandfather turned to look at Scott, who was flicking his gaze between his girlfriend and the other man with worried, but not entirely surprised, eyes. "He's doing what he came here to do," Scott answered.

"Then you know?" Gerard seemed mildly intrigued, like he hadn't believed the teenager would be smart enough to figure out his plot. Ellie sure wasn't; she was glaring at the pair in complete confusion.

"What are you" – she coughed, spluttered, drew in the deepest breath she could – "What are you talking about?"

The old man ignored her. "It was that night outside the hospital, wasn't it? When I threatened your mother," he said to Scott. "I knew I saw something in your eyes. You could smell it, couldn't you?"

"He's dying," Isaac said in disbelief.

"I am," Gerard agreed. "I have been for a while now. Unfortunately, science doesn't have a cancer yet. But..." He threw a malicious grin in Derek's direction, "The supernatural does."

Chris looked about as horrified as everyone else in the room felt, as Ellie felt (which was very horrified and also slightly light-headed). "You monster," he spat.

"Not yet," his father said snidely.

"What are you doing?" Ellie demanded, feeling the embarrassing wetness of tears as they dribbled down her cheeks. In response, the kanima's tail around her neck tightened so much black spots invaded her vision, accompanied by little patches of bright reds and greens.
