Matt came back, but I didn't tell him what was happening. I just took the beatings and went about my daily business.

However, one day I was unable to meet Samantha. A big case had come up and Tony had to pick me up straight from school.

I managed to go the next day, but Samantha was not at all pleased.

"Where the hell were you yesterday?" she demanded.

"Something came up..." I muttered and she walked up and pushed me.

"You don't waste my time like that, understand?" I nodded silently.

"I think you are definitely going to have to learn a lesson from this. I refuse to be kept waiting. I hate waiting and you're going to have to learn that I will not accept it," she growled, "Toby!"

The next thing I knew, it was dark outside. I struggled for breath, still seeing stars. How long had I been out?

I heard footsteps rushing towards me but I didn't move.

"Hey, are you alright?" a man asked, kneeling down next to me.

"Yeah," I groaned, sitting up slowly.

The man helped me up, supporting my arm. I felt my top riding up slightly and went to push it down, but the man had already noticed.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Nothing, I fell," I said.

"Some of these bruises are old," he said, "Listen, I'm a doctor. I can take you to the hospital, get you checked out. We're also going to have to find out what happened to you."

"I'm fine, it's just a few bruises. I'm an NCIS agent, so my work sometimes causes injury," I said as he helped me walk towards his car.

"No, it doesn't cause injuries like this. Come with me, we have to at least get you checked out. My name is Dr Grey," he said.

It turned out, I had broken a rib that was pressing into my lung which caused my shortness of breath and the blackout.

"We have tried our best to set it, but it's going to be painful for at least six weeks so try not to do anything else to it," Dr Grey sat down next to me, "I've called your emergency contact."

"Oh no..." I sighed.

"Are you going to tell me what happened before he gets here? Because I have to know, it's a legal requirement," he said.

"It was nothing, I just got into a fight," I said.

"Yes, and it seems you have done so every single day," he signalled to where the bruises were.

"I'm fine," I said.

Suddenly, both Gibbs and Tony burst into the room.

"What happened?" Tony asked.

"Nothing, I fell," I said and Dr Grey raised his eyebrow.

"Fell and broke your rib?" Tony asked.

"Yeah," I shrugged.

"Can I see?" Tony asked.

"There's nothing to see, it's better now," I said.

"All the same..." he replied.

"Tony, I'm fine," I gave him a relatively convincing smile.

"Can she come home?" Gibbs asked quietly.
