"No..." I breathed as I stared at them, wide-eyed.
"Molly, fancy seeing you here!" Samantha laughed, staring at me.
Matt looked embarrassed and pushed Samantha away.
"I... I've gotta get to class," he said, speed walking away.
"You bitch," I breathed.
"One thing led to another," she shrugged, "You guys are finished anyway. Get over yourself."
"I swear to god Samantha, if you dare do anything to hurt him I will not just let it pass," I said, "You watch yourself."
"Is that a threat?" she laughed, "You can't threaten me. Don't forget what I did to you last time."
"That was when I didn't fight back. Believe me, things have changed since then," I said.
"Not that much, you're still an attention whore," she grinned before walking away.
I stood in the empty corridor, trying to cool off. I guess Matt and I were over if he was with Samantha. I wasn't going to hold it against him. I was at least going to try not to. I couldn't expect him to be alright with me after what I put him through. Not this time, this time I took it too far.
I walked around the corridor and into a deserted classroom, sinking into one of the desks.
"Molly?" great...
"Matt, sorry, I didn't realise you were in here," I stood up to leave.
"We need to talk," he said.
"I think the time for talking is over," I sighed, "You've made your choice."
"Molly, I made you apologise so now it is my turn. Sit down and listen to me," he said and I sighed before doing exactly that.
"What are you apologising for?" I asked.
"I know I can't change what you just saw, nothing I say will reverse it. I wasn't thinking straight, you dying messed with me and then when I saw you again last week the world just seemed out of place. I have been in a bad place since you died, and seeing you again made things not make sense anymore and I honestly don't know what I'm doing. I know I'm not perfect, it's obvious after what just happened, but I hope you can see I'm still the same guy I was. Admittedly much stupider, but I'm still the guy who wants to hold you in his arms because you are all that matter. You said you're scared to lose me but you had no idea that I felt the exact same way," he sighed and looked away, "So I'm sorry."
I stared at him for a second in silence before striding over and holding him tightly.
"We've both made mistakes, huge mistakes. The best thing for us would be to put those behind ourselves and start fresh, go from where we left off," I smiled, "If you are alright with that, that is?"
He didn't reply, he just kissed me forcefully.
"Let's hope that was the one blip in our relationship," he smiled, "I'm happy with starting anew."
And so that's what we did. We didn't mention a word of what had happened in the past few weeks, we were who we were before and nothing Samantha or anybody else could do would change that.
Rule 12: Remember, imperfect is as good as it gets.
Of course life wouldn't be perfect. Nothing is perfect, you just have to make do with what you've got but sometimes that is all you need. And I was glad Matt and I had made up, we were going on that school trip together soon and an argument would makes things awkward.
Life did seem perfect for a while. A couple of days to be exact. Matt and I were putting the past behind us, pretending nothing ever happened. The team were treating me normally again. I was just a normal school pupil, going about daily life.
Until something happened in the squad room at NCIS one day.
"Molly Lees, I am arresting you under the suspicion of attacking Samantha Noble. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do say may be used against you in the court of law," the officer handcuffed me and started taking me out of the squad room.
Gibbs was striding towards me with a look of anger on his face.
"What do you think you're doing with my agent, officer?" Vance was at the stairs already, looking down at us.
"Arresting her, sir," the officer said, "Your agents are not above the law."
"And how do you believe she broke the law?" Tony asked.
"Assault," I was stood silently trying to take everything in.
"Assault? Do you know who you're talking about?" Tony was angry, "Do you know how much she's been through?"
"Agent DiNozzo," Vance warned him, "I guess you're right, officer. They're not. But normally they don't break the law, and I highly doubt Agent Lees would be the exception."
"Nonetheless, I have to take her in until the matter is taken care of. I promise she'll be in good hands," the officer said before continuing with his job.
"We'll get this sorted out, don't you worry," Tony said with determination.
I was in too much shock to argue as I was taken to the squad car outside of NCIS and I think everyone else was as well.
The next thing I knew I was in an interview room, one that looked similar to what I was used to.
But at the same time it was all so different, all so wrong. Being on the other side of the table gives you a brand new perspective, but it's not a good one.
The officer was kind enough. He spoke in soft tones, not accusing me of anything, just asking.
"Did you do anything to Samantha, Molly?" he asked. He was sat on the table, trying to give a relaxed atmosphere.
"I didn't touch her. She's done more to me than whatever she's accused me of," I said, keeping my voice level.
"This picture begs to differ," his partner slid a photo over to me.
His partner had been glaring at me silently the whole time, and his voice was harsh, accusing.
I glanced at the photo. It was Samantha alright, but not like I'd seen her before. Her face was bruised and slightly bloated, covered in cuts and looking more than worse for wear.
"Is she OK?" I was in shock.
"No, she's in a coma," the nice cop said, "A coma that you're accused of causing."
"Have you looked at what she did to me? Checked my hospital records?" my voice was trembling, "For weeks I took beatings, didn't tell anyone. I suffered multiple injuries. The only reason it stopped was because I was knocked out for hours until a doctor came across me. I broke a rib, it pressed against my lung and I blacked out. If it hadn't gotten that serious it would still be happening but she still tried threatening me even after that happened."
There was silence after that.
"Boss, her lawyer has turned up," someone had opened the door.
"We'll leave the two of you alone and come back later," the nice cop leaned forward so only I could hear, "Her friends have a good argument. No matter how much we believe you, her case has no holes in it. You need some pretty damning evidence to get out of this one."
I nodded and bit my lip. I hoped Gibbs had got me a good defence.
