"BYE SAE, I LOVE YOU-" Before you could finish your sentence the call ended, leaving the small smile you had on your face to fade away. Now you sat alone in your room, the apartment you two used to share together felt more empty. It didn't feel like home anymore. The silent night didn't help as you looked out the window, only to see an airplane pass by in the dark sky.
Before Sae had moved to Spain to continue his career, he was always there for you. His quiet and calming presence around the house made it comfortable to live in. It was a place for both of you to unwind after a long day, a place to find each other's arms again. Now being thousands of kilometres apart, it felt odd... You were always so used to seeing him and talking to him everyday, that when you woke up you half expected to see him right next to you. But whenever you turned around to look at him, it reminded you how far you two actually are from each other.
It did hurt, but you wanted him to succeed. You didn't want to drag him behind, this was his dream. About to close your eyes you felt your phone buzz once again. Checking it made you smile, melting away some of your worries.

Small text like these, and long hour calls made your heart swell. It reassured you that he cared still, and that he didn't forget about you. But recently you've been aching to see him, to feel his touch and to hear his words not just from a phone. Biting the inside of your cheek, you shut your lamp off to finally go to sleep. The room was filled with darkness, the room you once shared with Sae. You couldn't feel how the bed dipped right next to you, nor his soft breathing anymore. Curling into a ball, you tried to not think about it.
Why did your heart hurt so much?..

"GOD, I MISS HIM." The words easily slipped from your mouth the next morning. Now feeling slightly better after a nights rest, you called your friend as you two both talked. The phone on the table as you sat on the couch, listening to her talk about her own life as you twist your hair around your finger.
"Well, did he text you anything today?"
"Well obviously he... did.." You paused, realizing you haven't received a daily text from him. No good morning, no daily updates, nothing. That was strange, maybe he was busy? He'll surely text you later, he always does. Trying to not overthink about the situation again, you brushed it off and continued your day as always.
But as each hour passed, you kept unconsciously checking your phone. No text. You were simply left on read from when you messaged in the morning. It crushed you, the single string of hope you held onto every night that he still cared about you was slowly breaking. The thoughts you tried to bury away for so long when he had first moved to Spain was coming back to you. Just one day, he'll stop talking to you. He'll find someone new, and forget about you. He could easily do that by just not responding to you anymore.
The day passed into night, in your quiet home you sat there on the couch staring at your phone. Your private messages with him stayed silent, you were waiting or even hoping to see him start typing something to you. An apology maybe, or a single text to calm your worried mind. Nothing happened.
Mentally giving up, you put your phone down. Rubbing your forehead, trying to soothe your mind.
A sudden knock was heard at your door, pausing your actions the noise made you turn your head. The knocking then turned to the sound of someone unlocking the door. It made you a bit scared, backing further away from the front door. It was just a stranger possibly at the wrong apartment...
When the door clicked open you were ready to make a dash, till you saw who it was.
"Sae?" His figure appeared in a long thick coat before shutting the door. Taking his shoes off and swiping his burgundy red hair away from his face to take a better look at you. "I'm back home." He simply said.
"W-What?!" You said, a smile creeping onto your face as you ran up to him and welcomed him back with a hug. Laughing as you felt his arms wrap around you. "Why didn't you answer my text? Why didn't you tell me you were coming back?!" You questioned him, pulling apart as your initial happiness turned into an upset reaction.
He gently smiled, shaking his head. "I at least got you something." Changing the subject he reached for his pocket. Making you roll your eyes at him.
"You should at least answer me- Sae?.." Seeing him slowly get down on one knee, the object he had reached in his pocket for was a velvety black box. He flicked it open, revealing a beautiful engagement ring. It shined and dazzled as the light hits it, causing you to freeze.
"Will you marry me?"
You felt your knees become weak as you fell to the ground. Causing Sae to panic for a moment. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Yes!" Your smile made his face soften. Gently picking the ring and slipping it onto your finger, his eyes focusing on being as gentle as possible while yours lingered on his face. The way his lips were laced with a small smile, his eyes showing off such an affectionate look made your heart melt.
His hands grasped yours, looking back into your eyes now. "Also, I didn't text you today since I was travelling back here. It takes a while to fly back home you know."
"I guess I can forgive you," You said, making him scoff before pulling you into a hug again.
"Y/n, I love you."
"I love you too."
