A few days later, I officially went on a date with Ryan. We did what we did before he asked me out but somehow differently, if you know what I mean. Honestly, it feels weird but I’m still getting used to it. “Can I have your brother’s number?” He abruptly asked,

            “Why?”

“I want to congratulate him, report him about us,” He scratched the back of his neck, “And tell him that there’s no need to interrogate me because Cubbie already did that for him.”

“Do you have to do that?”

“It’s better than him finding it out another way.” He shrugged,

“You’re right.” I replied, dialing his number on Ryan’s phone.

“Can you imagine your brother chasing his own kid?”

“His own kid.” I chuckled, “Couldn’t imagine it happening.”

            “She must be really happy.”

I snorted, “What? Are you secretly in love with her or something?”

He gasped, “Do I smell jealousy?”

I stopped from walking, “I guess you got me.”

He stopped and stepped closer to me, “What can I do to convince you?”

            “Lick the asphalt.”

“Over my dead body.” He said, “Maybe I’ll do this instead.” He planted his lips on mine. His eyes were closed, and so was mine. I felt his hands on the small of my back and his warm breath tickling my face. I could feel him smiling the whole time. The noise of the hustling and the bustling city was gone; it was us in our own world. The street was barely lit by the dim streetlights and most of the stores were closed. “You’re brother would kill me if he saw us here.” He said between kisses,

“You don’t have to go that far. The guys are capable of killing you too.”

He chuckled and I could feel his breath, “I’m aware of that.”

I kissed him again, “But I’m not going to let you do that.”

He kissed back, “They can do it if I deserve it.”

            “You’re a gentleman and I like that.”

We were out on the streets walking in the cold, not knowing where to go. It felt like we were walking in circles, stuck in the concrete jungle. We talked until our throats were raw and laughed until a six-pack was formed. There were moments where he would stop and say ‘we should’ve done this before’ and I would agree on that. We were passing this record store when two familiar people walked out of it. I stopped, grabbed Ryan by the arm, turned, and walked away. Ryan knew who those guys were and he understood why I turned and walked away. But things went the other way, they knew it was us. He cleared his throat, “Where do you think you’re going?”

I stopped and turned, “Hey, Sean! Didn’t see you there!”

He rolled his eyes, “Yea, didn’t see you there too.”

“So I see that Cubbie wasn’t making things up.” Isom arched an eyebrow and smirked,

            “Uh… Yea…” Ryan answered,
