Chapter 6

I sighed and sat down on my bed, I shouldn't even be freaking out about this. It's just a friendly lunch between two friends. Wait, did I just say friend? He can't be my friend, I won't let him. It could be just a lunch between two strangers, yea, that sounds better.

I got back up and went over to my closet, maybe I'll just wear something simple. Maybe like black skinny jeans with a white shirt and my favorite pair of black chucks. That sounds perfect. After I got my outfit on I went and brushed my brown hair until it looked perfectly straight and pretty. I decided against wearing makeup so I just went downstairs and grabbed my phone. Just as I sat down to wait for him I heard a knock on my door. I got up and opened it slightly smiling when I saw who it was.

"Hey, you ready?" Jake asked with a huge grin on his face.

"Yes, do I need to bring money?"

"No, I'll pay, after all that's what friends are for right?"

"We are not friends. Just two strangers going out to lunch." I replied quickly and grabbing to close the front door so we could leave.

"Whatever you say Kaley, I think that we're friends. Oh and we're just gonna walk ok? The diner is just a 5 minute walk from here, I haven't been here long but I love their food." Jake said while walking right next to me. His hand accidentally brushed mine and I stiffened. That had to have been an accident, well at least I hope it was. I don't even think he noticed though, which was good. I didn't want him developing feelings for me at all.

It was a short walk, like Jake said and before I knew it, we were there and getting seated at a booth. A short blonde girl came up to us smiling hugely.

"Hi, welcome, I'm Jessie and I'll be your waitress today, what could I start you guys off with?"

"Umm, can I get a water, and for our appetizer can we get the bacon cheese fries? Kaley, what would you like to drink?" Jake asked turning to face me with the cutest smile on his face.

"I'll have a water too please." I said looking at the waitress who just so happened to be staring at Jake like she was in love. It made me feel a pang of jealousy, which was odd, I didn't even like him. But, I had a plan.

When the waitress left to go get our drinks and put in our appetizer order, I leaned closer to the table.

"Jake, wanna have a little fun?" I asked finally smiling at him.

"Like what?" He asked back, skeptically.

"Let's pretend to be together, the waitress looked like she wants you and I think it would be fun to crush her spirits if she thinks that you're taken."

"Haha, okay!" Jake replied jumping up and coming to sit by me. He grabbed my hand, just as the waitress walked up with our drinks. She looked at us and frowned slightly, then looked at me and glared. I just smiled hugely and gripped Jakes hand tighter.

"So, have y'all decided what you'll be eating today?"

"Ooh, babe, lets share something! Wouldn't that just be the cutest?" I asked Jake while plastering a huge smile on my face and looking at him.

"Oh my gosh babe that sounds perfect! Jessie, is that your name, umm we'll have the meat lovers pizza for two." Jake said to Jessie and then turned and kissed me, which caused Jessie to turn and stomp away like a child.

We were laughing like idiots while she was away because of how well our plan worked until I realized what had happened. He kissed me. He. Kissed. Me. On the lips. I stopped laughing quickly, which made Jake look at me funny. I quickly replaced my face of confusion with a smile, which reassured him.

A little bit later our pizza came and we ate it all, we must have been starving. But no matter what, I couldn't get the kiss out of my mind. I mean, it obviously meant nothing because we were just acting. Right?

I stayed quiet the whole walk home, when we got to my door Jake grabbed me by the shoulders.

"Alright Kaley, tell me what's wrong, right now."

"Nothing's wrong." I replied quietly.

"Don't give me that crap Kaley! Is it because I kissed you? Is that it? Well, it was your plan to act like we were dating and I wanted her to believe us. That kiss meant nothing. To you, or to me."

"Bye Jake. See you later." I said as I turned and walked into my house, slamming the front door. I stomped to my bedroom and threw myself into bed. I don't know why, but I started crying.
