PICTURE OF KEERA ------->

~Zane’s POV~

I returned quietly. Not daring to look at her. I could feel her watching me and I felt a stab of hurt and self remorse as I sensed her fear. I didn’t have a clue what happened, but I did remember her laugh. I was close to the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. The very memory or it made the silence almost unbearable.

I shook my head, trying to rid myself of her scream. Nothing had ever been so painful in my entire life knowing the terror I had caused her.

I opened my mouth to speak but she beat me to it, her voice shaking slightly. “I’m sorry I hurt you. I didn’t mean to. I just remember something I had tried to forget.”

I gaped at her in shock. She was apologizing for something I had done. “None of that was your fault at all. I should be the one apologizing. Not you.” I said quietly.

She shook her head. “You can’t apologize just for having fun Zane.”

I blinked in surprise. No one had ever said something like that to me before. So innocent. “But still. I obviously did something.”

She looked away, avoiding my gaze for a moment. “It wasn’t what you did. Do you remember when you scanned through my memories about Harold?”

I nodded my eyes alight with confusion. “Yeah…”

“And how some of my memories were cloudy or blank?”

“Yeah, I didn’t know you knew that though. Most if not all mortals never know when they’ve blocked things off. They can’t control it. Almost all can’t control their own thought enough to keep them blocked.”

She only nodded and continued before I could do so. “Well I blocked them from both anyone who might intrude and you. Mostly you because of your reactions but after my meltdown you deserve an explanation.”

I looked at her in confusion. “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to Kat.” The last thing you wanted was for me to hurt her even further.

She shook her head. “I need to.” she insisted she took in a shuddering breath. “When Harold took me back to the prisons he decided to test me to see if I was good enough.” her voice broke and tears overwhelmed the barriers of her eyes and fell one by one onto her lap, the way the rain does just as the storm is beginning. “He wanted to make sure I would live up to my new status and be able to sell quick.” she tried to continue but shook with fear and disgust from the memory.

I wrapped one arm around her back and the other one around the front. I felt her lean into me, thankful for the comfort and I felt my pulse increase at her being so close. “Shh. You don’t have to continue. Believe me, I know. Kat, I promise you that he will pay for what he’s done to you.”

She didn’t say a word, she just clung to me for dear life. For an unknown reason I wished I could stay in that spot for forever. I felt comforted in the presence, like she could save me from anymore pain that would come from the future.

We sat there in complete silence together for countless moment, each not daring to break the peaceful quiet.

After another few moments I broke the comfortable silence. “Come with me, I want to show you something.” I said gently as she obeyed without a word and I added. “That is, only if you want to.”

She nodded and attempted to smile the littlest bit, I smiled reassuringly as relief washed over me.

~Normal POV~

He led me quietly through the busy corridors, making sure to keep me close. He finally came to a stop in front of a large gate, barely stopping long enough to open it. I blinked as he seemed to do so faster than I could keep up with. No matter how much I was around vampires, I couldn’t wrap my mind around their speed.
