Soon after Xavier caught up to Derek and I, an irritated look on his face. I remained silent as we walked the empty hallways until finally Xavier spoke. “Don't go near him again.” he said quietly.
Knowing he was speaking to me I glared at him. “Why?”
He only blinked and met my gaze coolly. “Because he's dangerous.” he answered simply.
“Aren't you?” I challenged. “Isn't Zane? Derek? Christa?”
He sighed impatiently. “Just listen to what you're told for once.” he snapped. I flinched, and stopped. That was the first time anyone here had basically told me to obey orders and the first time that I was introduced back towards the world of slavery. I stared at him and I could tell he instantly regretted what he said. “Kat, you know that's...”
“No. It's perfectly fine Xavier. Just don't.” I said, my voice hurt and I could feel a lump forming in my throat. Not saying any more I turned on my heel and walked as fast as I could in the other direction to where Zane's room was. I half expected for Derek or Xavier to stop me before I could even turn around but neither of them did.
I knew it was a bit dramatic but in the past few days I had begun to feel more and more like an equal and to be reminded that I was so far under them by someone that I considered a friend hurt. I shook my head as I walked back into the same room that Isaac had been in before, almost expecting him to be leaned up against the wall once more. Instead I saw nothing more than a vacant room. Sighing, I continued my way to Zane's room, ignoring the slightly disappointed twinge at the sight of no one.
When I reached his bedroom I walked in without hesitation and slipped my aching feet out of the heels and removed the hair pins and such that held my hair up, letting it fall messily around on my shoulders and down my back. I sighed again and sat on the bed, exhausted from everything that had happened earlier. I suddenly jumped as an unexpected knock sounded from the other side of the door and I stared at it, holding my breath. Another second or two passed before another knock sounded and I slowly walked over to the door, opening it a bit.
I blinked in surprise as Isaac came into view. “What do you want?” I asked curiously.
He raised an eyebrow with something along the lines of surprise. “Why are you in Zane's room?” he questioned.
“It's where I stay.” I answered, narrowing my eyes. “Besides, you knew I'd be in here because why would the prince be in his room at his own ball?”
He smirked. “I like you, you're not stupid like other humans.”
“Glad to know I can be of some entertainment.” I replied dryly and shifted my weight onto one foot, growing tired of standing there. “Now what did you want with me?”
He laughed a short laugh that surprised me. “You're welcome, but anyway I just wanted to say that I was impressed back there with how you snapped at Xavier, there's not many who would talk back to a vampire much less him and considering you came from Harold's place I admire your strength. Oh and I wanted to give you this. Now goodnight Katerina.” his amber eyes flashed with the same mischievous gleam that they always held as he placed a single tan envelope in my hand and within an instant had disappeared before I could reply.
I blinked a few times, taking the entire encounter with him in. There was one thing for sure about Isaac and that was that he was quite unpredictable with everything he did. I shut the door slowly and took the piece of paper within the envelope out carefully and unfolded it to display the delicate and graceful handwriting of Isaac.
Katerina,
I don't know what all Xavier and/or his boyfriend told you about
me but if they did say anything I'm sure it was something along the
