Many Months Later

"I wasn't ready yet" I crossed my arms, following Casey into the small room we were told to meet at. "I'm still dizzy from that MRI scan"

"Why did you have a scan?" Riker smiled.

"Just a routine one" I smiled back as David entered the room, shutting the door behind him. It was the usual people- Rocky, Sierra, Casey, Riker (they signed up a few weeks after I left St. Mary's) and of course, Ross and I.

The atmosphere between us is slightly improved, I mean, we greet each other when we walk by one another; other than that it is major awkwardness.

"Hello everybody, I hope you've had a decent night's sleep because this one is a brain picker"

I scoffed. "It's unholy times of the morning. I don't think I slept at all"

"You do look kind of tired" David smiled to me kindly. "But, I have a mission for two of you. And it's a dangerous one, involving radioactivity & some dangerous criminals.

Nobody budged. However, as he continued to speak and introduced the mere chance of death, I was left with one other person.

And you'll never guess who it was.

"Ross & Athena, brilliant! No offence to the others, but, it's always good to have some Elite spies on the case" David gestured for us to shuffle closer (we literally sat with a chair between us).

"Now this man, Mr Atom-"

"That is fucking ridiculous" I said. Ross looked at me. "The first nuclear bomb dropped on a country by the USA was called The Atom Bomb"

"That is ridiculous" Ross smirked. "What does he want?"

"He wants to literally strip the UK from money and then keep them in 'captivity' to get a ransom from its allies. If that is not achieved, we're looking at nuclear war" David informed us. "This guy is not messing around and will kill anybody in his path- I don't usually send my best for such dangerous tasks but you both have brilliant minds. And it will hopefully influence a thaw in your 'relationship'"

My cheeks became bright red and Ross shuffled in his seat. David chuckled. "I'm not blind. Now, go pack, you'll be leaving for Las Vegas in two hours"

"This looks cosy" Ross commented, dropping his bags on the ground as he peered around the fancy hotel suite. I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and sat on the arm of thee couch. "Has David called yet?"

"Anytime now" I said and as if on cue, my laptop came to life, his sharp features displayed. "Just touched down"

"Great. Now, Athena there is a surprise for you inside the closet & I need you to put it on; same for you, Ross" David smiled. "I hope you aren't too tired, because you're heading to a casino where Mr Atom- or Jack- will be. Your task is to make friends with him subtly and I repeat subtly for Ross"

He laughed. "That was a one off! We'll text before we leave" his eyes then flicked to me, nodding to the bedroom. I followed behind him.

Inside the wardrobe was a long black halterneck dress with a slit on the left leg. Beside it were some matching glossy Louboutain heels. I shrieked. "This outfit is going to be amazing!"

"Cool" Ross eyed the tuxedo left for him. "Time to look like an absolute douchebag"

"Stop, you'll-we'll look great!" I smiled and he smiled back.

"I'll change in the other room" I gave him thumbs up as he left.

The next hour was spent achieving perfect curls, getting my make up right, putting the dress on and matching my lips to the red bottoms of my heels. For a final touch, I added the new F.A.S.T. watch which allows me to speak to Ross as long as he's in a 4 mile radius & minimal jewellery.

"How do I look?" I entered the living room with a slight celebratory dance when we looked at each other. "Oh shit"

It was safe to say that he looked like 47 million bucks right now. And I'm sure the feeling is mutual because I'm not the only one staring in awe.

"Damn, you look great" Ross finally approached me. "Wait, don't move"

His thumb wipes the corner of my lips, "It was slightly smudged", and next thing I knew, his own lips were on mine.

It was comforting, but before I could indulge too much on it, I gently pushed him away.

He looked horrified. "Shit. Sorry. Too early?"

"Way too early" I gave him a small smile. "Plus, work. Now give me your arm before I fall in these"
